Carpet Everywhere

I am not vintage just yet but I know you guys can give me some ideas. What have you done to replace the carpet they decided to put on the walls and to cover every little conduit box or anything that isn't level with the floor ?

Carpet on the walls!!! That's got to be butt ugly. There are a lot of options. If it was me, I'd try removing the carpet and replacing with 1/8 inch paneling. Although, you can get a lot of interesting colors and wood grains in nice looking vinyl.
