Do you guys use silicone sealant on the black water to closet flange down pipe?

From the factory they gooped the crap out of the grommet (seal) to tank and the grommet to pipe connections w/ silicone sealant. The fit is tight and it's a rubber seal so I would assume it would do it's just fine by being installed dry but curious if they know something I don't? I have the sealant but I hate to just add sealant when not necessary. What do you guys do?

Some floor jockey was given 2 tube of silicone and told to use it up......

There is NO NEED for sealant on toilet floor flange ...toilet uses a rubber foam seal and that is all that is needed

Unfortunately once silicone has been used it creates an issue....silicone will not adhere to it's self and takes LOTS of effort to remove the residue so anything can adhere

Scape any off that is on the face of floor flange and bottom of toilet
Then get a new rubber foam seal to reset toilet

I think you misunderstood me. I put in new porcelain floors and pulled the closet flange and its downpipe out of the black water tank grommet/seal. The silicone was between the black water tank and the grommet and also between the 3" downpipe from closet flange through the ID of the grommet. Nothing between the bowl gasket and flange or toilet OR flange and floor. I pulled the grommet and cleaned all silicon from it. Seal is still pliable and serviceable so I will reuse just curious if the SOP is to use silicone sealant in these places. I don't see it hurting but I also like to think ahead so the less silicone I have in place the easier removal will be later if need be.

1995..........are you the original owner??

Grommet for toilet line to tank inlet should be all that is needed and not gooped up with silicone

They are designed to fit into/around lip of cutout in tank and seal tight around the toilet line
