Dual purpose RV propane tank?

I have a 1983 Holiday Rambler Imperial 33. The 33 gallon propane tank can be used either to supply propane to the stove, furnace, etc, or I can open another valve which says liquid propane and I can use it to run my motor instead of gasoline.

I am a bit concerned about the age of the tank as the MH is a 1983. The problem I am having is finding a replacement tank for the old one . It seems as though you can only get tanks that operate as liquid or gaseous state but not both.

If anyone has any idea as to where I could find such a tank any help would be appreciated.

Is the engine operation on Propane still working? 33 Gallon seems small to run the engine. Back in that era dual fuel was used to cover for gas rationing and the even-odd days of getting fuel. My folks had a Brave two gas tanks and an 80-gallon propane missile.

Engine propane

Yes it still works I only have to drive it for about 100 mile to its permanent home so I am not to worried about distance. It has some propane in it right now and started the engine last time. The tank just looks a little rough and rusted.

If just light surface rust, it can be cleaned and repainted. If there is any pitting at all it should be replaced. Many years ago, on my Vanagon I had the tank spring a larger pin home leak while getting filled at a Flying J. What an event. Fire department response and shutdown of the Flying J. Fortunately they understood that I did have everything turned off and to just let it vent. They were going to foam the van down.

If it has propane in it now, it has the same pressure in it as it would have when it is full. If it is just going 100 miles and not moving anymore for it's lifetime I would not spend the money for a new tank. Depending on what your plans are once it is there, there are other options for propane if you need it.

Ya don't say! Meet MOAP, lightly rusted although it looks bad the metal was almost pristine. I took a wire brush wheel hooked up the angle grinder donned a mask and one hour later it was ready for paint.

I used good old rustoleum enamel paint replaced a few valves and she's as good as new. That's about a $1500 tank on today's market, I can't imagine how rusting would have to occur to degrade that old tank. I believe it's a Manchester parts are still available it functions perfectly. As to age, we'll what is the 1/2 life of steel?

The tank is heavy and awkward about 200lbs, I simply built a wooden cradle used a jack and took my time both installing and uninstall, strapping it down to cradle using trailer straps really simplified the work
