Electric brakes

Does a 1998 Fleetwood Terry model 28J have electric trailer brakes? I have a brake controller in my truck.

Travel trailer, yes it does. Having issues with the brakes?

Well I ask because I engaged the brake control in my truck and I didn’t feel anything jerk or feel resistance when I did that. I even cranked up the controller.

Could be several reasons why these are not working. Pads are used up, magnetics are bad, bad connections, etc....
Without pulling the wheels, it is all a guess. Do you know when the last time the brakes were serviced?

What axles are under the rig? You may be lucky and still have a sticker on the axles that tells make, model of the axle.

Well I looked under the trailer and surprisingly there are not electric brakes. At least with my experience there are wires coming from the backing plates. Unless I’m missing something. Weird that at 6600lb trailer wouldn’t have brakes.

You would think it would have brakes. Wonder if a previous owner just got tired of dealing with brakes and cut the brakes out?

99.999% chance the trailer was built with brakes. It shouldn't be too difficult to refit with brakes.

I agree, likely PO had brake issues, and fixed it by removing brakes, rather than fix issue. I wonder if magnets/actuating arms, or even shoes are still in the drums?

I will pull a wheel at some point. Just weird that I don’t see any clipped wires.

While under there check the axels to see if there are any holes for the wires.

After further review, there are wires from from the back axle backing plates that go into the axel housing.

It has brakes.......did you check that the brakes are getting 12vdc from your truck 7 pin connection?

Check that there is 12VDC at trailer brakes?

That old of a trailer...brakes worn out/bad shoes/bad magnets etc
Pull a drum and find out

Turns out my trailer has 4 wheel electric brakes. Didn’t realize that until I replaced the rear axles LH and RH assemblies. $105 each side. Now to order two more assemblies.
