Engine dies on idle

Hello!
Really need some help.. my rv engine really struggles with idle and if I lift off the gas and apply the brakes and can stall completely- Iíve fitted new leads plugs rotor arm and distributor cap as a precaution, new Idle air control valve, in-line fuel filter and still itís the same - has anyone got any other ideas?
Being in the uk doesnít help as itís not a common vehicle - most people are guessing!

You need to check fuel pressure.. then clean and check egr valve.. i would just disconnect egr and plug vacuum line going to it.. then try it.. also you need to get a scanner and captures live data..
Good luck and keep us posted

You sure that is TBI? In USA 1995 P30 Chassis was the last year for the TBI. If it is TBI, Strong possibility of a bad throttle position sensor(TPS). I had a similar problem a couple years ago. There is a test for it using a ohm meter. I have the instructions in the factory manual. I can post them for you when I return home on Thursday.

Am thinking EGR might be culprit, sorry I dont know what PCV is?! MAP sensor wasn't aware of, had it plugged in and throws no faults up.

Pcv = positive crankcase ventilation system.. and map =. Is manifold absolute pressure sensor . Sence you got to figure this out on your own.. I recommend that you order a basic automotive repair book for 97 Chevy ck2500 or ck3500.. I like Haynes and Chilton.. your public library will have copies of these.. here is why.. chevy/GM used the vary same engine and transmission and computer controls.. across all these lines.. and the books will have definition and troubleshooting tips.. and wiring diagrams and engine and transmission specs.. this will get you 90% there.. only the frame parts will be different.. order online at your favorite online store.. you may even find books used.. imho you should look in Chevy truck forums.. and remember you have a 97 Chevy ck2500 or ck3500 with home on it's back.. you can learn there too.. the 97 suburban and others will have this same set up..
Good luck and keep us posted

Oh.. did you check fuel pressure ? And does your Chevy have catalytic converter on it? If so.. you can temporarily bypass that.. do you have to take rv through emission testing ? How did you purchase it?
Good luck and keep us posted

I believe MAP sensor is top right . TBI is a bit of a pain to test fuel pressure from pump there's no Schrader valve been to put adapter in line from kit. There's a regulator in TBI unit they don't often fail. EGR stuck open usually cause rough idle ...chugging low power low end rpm. R&R clean it with with carb cleaner. Those ignition coils degrade at coil wire aluminium stud check it see how it looks. Plugged catalytic conv. usually degrades high rpm power first. There were millions of TBI motors they all have about the same ECM control Google search for low idle.
Looks like PCV is pretty passive won't cause big issues on TBI it's in valve cover tubed to air cleaner stove pipe. You just wash it out carb cleaner floods it close ends off with fingers give it a good shake it should rattle.

Post up the VIN number.

97 should have Vortec. Unless someone (PO) swapped in a TBI motor.

Fuel pressure for the 94-95 TBI years was 26-32psi. Previous TBI years were 9-13psi. Attached a pic of mine (1994).
