HI,
a question for the other owners and knowledgeable mechanics out ther. I just bought a 1990 Winnabego Elandon 37 ft., on a john deer frame and 460 ford efi engine. Need to know if i can take the in tank fuel pump out and put a frame mounted pump on this unit.
It has a blown fuel pump right now so if this is possible it would make my life simpler.
any and all answers would be appreciated. The unit is awesome except for this and the price of 1500.00 was i think a steal. everything works except not running, poured fuel into the intake it fired up and ran beautifuly so i know the fuel pump id the issue

Try posting your question on the Ford Motorhome Chassis Forum (be sure to word and title it so that you don't get into trouble for double posting). There's some very sharp folks who post on that forum.

Before you blame the fuel pump put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail and measure the pressure. It may be there is an electronic issue sending signals to the injectors or something like that. The pressure should be around 40 - 45 psi. If there is pressure I would check to see if the injectors are getting a pulse.

If pressure is less than 40 you can look at the pump as an issue. It can be replaced using a frame mounted style but there is a little extra work to do to make it work. Here's a link to another thread dealing with this kind of issue.

Also look for a fuelpump safety shutoff switch. Fords had/have a switch that if there is a impact etc it will cut power to fuel pump. It might be tripped.

did this the switch on firewall is fine, thanx for info

as long as you can match a frame mounted pump that runs the exact same pressures and volume as the ford spec in tank fuel pump
that would be the challange
