Good Morning;
Sad to cancel M&G but the best decision considering the current and potential conditions.

We are currently watching the border closures simply hoping restrictions are removed before October.

Have a safe day.

What are the restrictions at the border now Gordon?

Do they differ per entry point, or one size fits all?

Border is closed to all non essential travel until the end of July. Likely will be extended if I were a betting person. That's only the land borders, if you fly you can get to most places. Need wings on the MH (LOL).

They consider essential travel for Americans who are travelling to Alaska. I don't know if they check that you are a resident of Alaska or if you own property there. A few have been ticketed for sight seeing ($1,200.00 per person) instead of going by the most direct route through to their destination in Alaska.

I believe they are looking at infection rates rather than hospitalizations (serious cases) for the decision. There is some indication that the hospitals are filling up but they don't tell you that many of those are elective surgeries that have started up.

Number of people I have conversed with seem to think if you get covid you will die or if you don't die you will have serious complications in the future. Such is the reporting in the news. People read and make decisions based on the headlines.

We are keeping our fingers crossed but with the news reporting many believe the border should remain closed. Our politicians may take that into consideration when the time to make a decision comes.

Hello M&G,

Gordon, hope there is a window where you two can get out and head to Yuma but will have to wait to see.

Figure since we cannot do a lot of what we want to do at St Ignace there is no point in going. There is always another year and by then we may just be all going to Yuma anyway.

Mackinac Island was featured on NBC Nightly News this evening on a story about tourist towns coping with the Pandemic. Looks like a beautiful place.

It is indeed. Rode a bicycle around the whole thing once.
I mentioned this before on the forum....but, have you ever seen the movie "Somewhere In Time"?
It stars Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour, it was filmed on the island. One of my favs....check it out.

I got my cancellation email back from the KOA! Bummed, but what you going to do? I also canceled the rental car reservation at O'Hare Airport too!
We will be going to St Ignace next year for sure, beautiful area, lots of memory's up there, plus going when the black cherries are ripe, Score!
Sorry this year did not pan out! Thank the Chinese!
For us, flying out of Thailand this year would be a really big hassle, we could do it, but, not sure i want to cooped up on a plane with a bunch of strangers with this virus still going around! Rail!

I have not canceled yet. Son thinks he is going to keep his registration. I will be canceling mine.

Such a great area to visit. I remember going to the island when I was around 11 or 12. Took the ferry to ST Ignace. Then across to Island.
Last time we were there took horse and buggy ride around island. About 15 years ago.
I picked up this spinner at craft show while visiting. Son now has it for his RV.

Being a Boatnerd. I was looking forward to a day trip to Sault Ste. Marie to watch ships go thru the locks.
One of my favorite groups on Facebook is Great Lakes Ship Watchers.
Of course the biggest reason to do the Meet & Greet was to meet some of those that post to Gooood Morning!!!! thread.
Next year will be here soon.

I love the M&G's to put faces to the new friends I have met here on the Goooomorning thread. Made lifelong friends here. I was looking forward to the trip to Michigan. Traveling at least part of the way with Stan and Jira and also Frank and Rita. And exploring new areas. Hope we can do this same place next year.

Hello M&G,

Mackinaw Island is an amazing place. No motorized vehicles, you walk, ride a bike, or get a horse and or wagon ride. There is a OLD FORT on the top of the island which is great to walk around..

Somewhere in Time is also one of my favorite movies. The Island and the Grand Hotel were the perfect backdrop for the movie.

Our Governor's mansion is on the Island although I do not know how much it is used. Just a great place to spend time walking around and looking. Lots of neat little shops.

The wooden boat school was something I was looking forward to seeing. Some people are have wicked skills and this place is one of them. They are closed to visitors this year.

So yes, next year sounds like a plan. Stan, let us know when works for you. Lynne

The campground in Soo Michigan right close by the Sugar Island Ferry is one of the best boat viewing sights in North America. Aune Osborn Campground puts you up close and personal to the huge freighters as they glide by a couple hundred feet from shore.

I too was looking forward to meeting new people from this site and like it is said there is always next year.
