Good power converter location?

I'm planning to replace my dead power converter with a Progressive Dynamics PD9260CV unit. My current unit is mounted in an open ended box mounted on the top of my engine compartment just inside the engine hatch, where it's exposed to whatever water comes in through the radiator fan or is sprayed up by the rear tires. Should I relocate it or just put the new one in? The current unit has been there & worked for all these years. Advise me, O Wise Ones!

Sorry, the wise ones may come later.....
But I’m with you, I wouldn’t place a high wattage device ‘in the elements’ and especially not near the engine where it would probably get hotter temps as well.
My old Monaco Dynasty inverter is located in the main storage compartment with the slide out tray. Makes it a snap to lay down in ease (great for this old man) and piddle with it.
Now I will sit back and read the old timers wisdom!

ArkansasRomr, that was my thoughts. I have an area in the closet where the 12 volt circuit breaker box is mounted that might be big enough for it, but I wondered about it being enclosed in the closet. Probably be cooler than being hung beside that big Cat diesel!

Mount it as close to the batteries as safely possable. Not in with them.

The shorter the 12 volt wire run, the better and faster charge you will get.

In that case maybe the original place IS the best spot! After all, it's worked there for years.

Twinboat,

I did not know that. See it’s good to sit down, shut up and listen when you don’t know much!

Thanks
