So I had a chance to buy a Class C, that wasn't running. Very clean unit with just under 45,000 miles.

Dropped the tank and replaced the fuel pump, unfortunately the whole sending unit assembly wasnt available locally, so I just replaced the pump and reinstalled. also replaced the External pump.

The 460 starts and runs good, the unfortunate thing is the fuel gauge isnt working. After reinstalling the tank, I put about 20 gallons of gas in and the gauge still read Empty.

Looks like I will be dropping the tank again and replacing the sending unit.

The vinyl stripes are pretty cracked, so I removed them from the passenger side and am toying with color options and if I want to paint on the new stripes or go with vinyl again????

I will post some pics tonight, so you can all chime in on the color choices.

Does anyone know where I can find a manual for a 1988 Mallard class C on a Ford Chassis?

Im going to be having some questions as we move forward with this one.

Well the old vinyl stripes lasted 25 years. New ones will probably last just as long.

I removed the stripes from the passenger side.. then chalked out some lines for new painted stripes....

Kept it pretty simple. will need to go back and do some clean up and touch up, but here are some before and during pics

Wow - looks just like our '86, same color (stripes in same shape too). Is yours 27' too?

We have all the manuals, etc., might be able to scan them. The manual says the exterior is aluminum, but it sure looks/feels like vinyl! We have a small thin exterior crack, hubby sealed it, but would like to know we did it correctly...

We just got ours in March, runs great! We recently replaced the converter (twice), replaced the fridge (ammnonia leak) with a new Atwood helium one, a new back battery, and the generator has some issue. Other than that, it's been perfect!!! Interior is in great shape, all orginal! ~ I've made new curtains, and it now has a 19" flat screen tv.

We absolutely *love* ours!! Our only wish is that it would have had a bigger clean water tank...

- just showed your pics to hubby; what kind of paint did you use, for the striping?

I just used fusion paint in spray cans. I like the way it turned out, I kept it pretty simple and I wont have to worry about the vinyl splitting again.

I still have the drivers side to do yet.

on mine the body is definitely not aluminum.

You mentioned the side door battery.....mine is missing the battery. It just has 2 white and 2 black wires in the compartment.

I was going to put another battery in there but dont know what would be pos or neg. If I was a guessing man I would say the black is ground(NEG) and the whites go to POS???

the float seemed to be in good condition. When I drop the tank I am replacing the whole unit with an airtex 2071. that way it is done!

Thats a nice lookiing rig Barker! Mine is missing the awning...completely gone. something I will have to get.

Can you walk around to the otherside and look at the battery compartment?

My battery is gone. I have 4 wires...2 black and 2 white.. can you tell me if the whites go to Pos or Neg on the battery...

Jim ... try a continuity tester from the black wire(s) to a solid body part (ground). Even if you get continuity, also test the white the same way just to be sure something is not messed up in the system.

Your guess of black being ground is logical, however. I assume the batteries for that compartment are considered the "house" system, yes?

Hubby said whites are neg, positive side are black.

If you want to verify, he said look inside your converter, should see the cables hooked to the converter and the circuit board they hook to is labeled. - on our new converter anyways, our old one wasn't labeled.... He just googled it too - Proper Battery Connect and Converter Use, Pete's Quick RV Tips - a youtube video.
