I think you will find that the headers while more effectivly routing exhaust gases out of the engin the also will push the heat out more effectivly as well.
Cast iron stock manifolds are really a large heat-sink right in the dog house where you dont want it. Most motors will run cooler under the hood with a good set of headers. Running too lean can be an exception to that theroy.
Now - that being said, one can always benifit from more heat shields and better insulation of the dog house. I have insulated many RVs for noise and temprature and always been very happy with the results.
