It likely has its own fuel pump.
Give that a check first.

Fuel Ignition Air Next time it won't start try some starter fluid if no luck there, if you can get to a plug wire see if you are getting spark. If it has had ethanol those old cabs did not like the mixture and is tough to get all the passages clear. Basic small engine trouble shooting. Flooded check a plug, dry try choking, etc. etc.

Don't know for sure, but check to see if the flywheel has a magnet up inside it to trigger the ignition....if it does, pull it off. the flywheel. and emery that surface to get rid of the rust.....might have to find out from a Kohler shop

thank you for the replies I think I have it narrowed down to the magneto ignition cuz it doesn't seem to be having Spark all the time so I'm going to try replacing the magneto and go from there. by the way it is getting plenty of fuel I've had the fuel line off many times pumps fuel good filled up the carburetor pretty sure it's just not sparking all the time

I've now got it to spark I unhooked the oil pressure sensor and it seems to work better now I'm just playing around with the electric choke or the automatic choke and also might need to adjust the carburetor a little bit more so still playing around with it but it's getting better thank you for all your responses
