LED Headlamps: Which Are The Best?

I am looking into replacing my standard halogen bulbs in our 1995 Bounder 34' which has 4 headlamps with LEDs and I would like to hear from those who have done so and found excellent results and which lights they went with to achieve them.

I've found several on Amazon and on e-Bay and they seem similar other than some are DOT approved (which I want) and the pricing which ranges from $45.00 to $90 and beyond.

Any tips or recommendations for manufactures/products would be welcomed!

Not as simple as replacing a sealed beam headlight. The LED must work with the reflector (existing lamp housing) to create the correct beam pattern, or you won't be able to see any better. Another thing, have you checked the voltage at your lights? You may need to put in relays to increase voltage to normal range.

Lots of folks here have dabbled in headlight replacement, but I wonder how many have measured and compared before and after beam patterns, light intensity. Some real empirical evidence here would help. "My headlights are a lot brighter now than my old headlights" is not an objective measurement.

Check Daniel Stern lighting for more info.

I agree, with a lot of the LEDs its seems like you can see more light, but can you see more with the light? Those are not the same thing. I don't want to notice the light, I want see more of what I'm looking at down the road.

In my experience its all about the light pattern. If you are going to spend good money on upgrades, HIDs with a true projector lens is the best there is.

The projection ones I put in my truck sure work good and don't blind the on-coming traffic

In my old coach, which had separate high and low bulbs...I installed GE Silverstone bulbs. I found about a 25% improvement over the originals, and it was a simple bulb change.

LED's would be brighter, but a lot of effort.

I think we should be looking at the lights on Big Class 8 trucks; OTR truckers gotta have the best headlights around, right? Who's gonna dig into this??

I replaced my headlight housings and intended to use LEDs. I bought several sets, but they didn't provide the correct light pattern, so I picked up Silver Stars instead.
Research carefully to make sure the LED has the same focal length as a standard halogen lamp for your vehicle. Most of the LEDs out there are very generic; they come with multiple adapters so a single lamp can replace different lamp types.

I tried LED's in my rig, pattern was great out to about 50' then nothing. Got the Silverstars and now have much better lighting.

Tried replacement Led bulbs in my Goldwing, didn’t notice anything over the H7, used these in the Jeep as it has sealed beam, WHDZ 7 Inch Round Led Headlight for Jeep Wrangler Cj Jk Tj Motorcycle Offroad Vehicles

Noticeable improvement , so, like has been said the lens needs to work with Led’s, looks like you have sealed beams

Mr D and/or '429', from what little research I've done the Silverstars are halogen lights, not LED - is that correct? Or is there an LED version I've not found?
Not that I'm complaining mind you, better light is better light, *I* don't really care exactly what the light source is as long as it works like it should.

I believe the OP has square SEALED BEAM headlights. He can't just replace the internal bulb.

OP, you might find something here:

Although the Silverstars are impressive bulbs, I trust that people know they are rather short-lived. This article says that the rated life is ~250 hours; I've seen other reports that it's not even that long: Sylvania Silverstar vs Xtravision: Comparison & Review - Best Headlight Bulbs By way of comparison the Sylvania Xtaravision is half the price and has an 850 hour rated lifetime.

The issue becomes more serious if you have a vehicle such as my 2014 CR-V where the low beams are used as DRLs, further reducing the useful lifetime, even though the voltage is reduced in DRL mode.

My husband is a bit obsessed with headlights and always, they are the first thing he replaces on all vehicles, unless they come with good ones (we tend to prefer used vehicles).

He went through numerous attempts at upgraded headlights on our 1991 Fleetwood Flair and now our 1998 Safari Trek. He is finally very happy with this set of LED headlights from Amazon. I have to say, the light output from them is great and does not seem to bother oncoming drivers, as we've had no one flash us in over 1200 miles, much of it at night.

The key is that he wired the four to be on simultaneously. One on each side was not bright enough. They have low and high beams (and DRL's, if one chooses). We're very happy with them.

Sorry, only photo I had that (kinda) shows them on the rig.
