Maybe dodged a $2800 bullet!
Had a small crack develop in the lower right corner of passenger window. It was fine for awhile but when I brought the MH home this morning I noticed it had developed two 2” cracks headed toward the center. Took it to local windshield installer who offered two solutions, an $80 repair or a $2800 replacement. I took the repair. They drilled holes at the end of the two cracks and drilled some other holes to relieve the pressure. The glass guy said he has seen a lot of cracks like this on RV’s and has had a 90% success rate with drilling. Fingers crossed!

If you caught it early enough and he fixed it right it should do fine. We have had this done to a car and still fine.
MH was another matter. The crack was so big it needed replaced.. $1,400. for half a windshield.

Comprehensive insurance should cover that.

Friend in the glass business chased the cracks that developed from a rock bruise for over a year. In the end a new windshield fixed the issue.

We bought the rig with the windshield with the crack already. It was not covered by insurance due to this.

Sorry about that! When we bought ours it had a cracked windshield as well. We stipulated that it was fixed before we bought it. The owner claimed it was due to a recent rock hit and submitted it to his insurance company who paid for the repair, minus the deductible of course.
The glass is easily enough obtainable from an outfit in Ohio. It's the install that is killer.

We are having ours done at Duncan RV Repair down in Elkhart, IN. They are a great company and have a small CG there with elec and water where you can camp to let the windshield set for 24 hours. They have a dump too.
Nice place and some great work!

Thanks for all the replies. So far the repair is working. I went back to have a chip fixed on my pickup. The glass guy showed me where and how he drilled the crack on the motorhome with a cordless drill and a certain glass drill bit. He suggested I carry a bit around in case more cracking ensues while traveling. He gave me one of his.
