New problem on my 91 oshkosh ford 460 chassis

Turns out the Low Pressure oil cutoff switch that runs the fuel pump has failed. Where can I get one, all the auto parts stores around here just scratch their heads

I found a few on ebay motors. Just be sure its for the engine and not the AC compressor. I'd call the seller and ask if they have one for the 460 (7.5).

Try Summit Racing. They have all kinds of oil pressure safety switches. Here's a link:

IVR2 user Subford who normally posts over in the Ford F53 chassis forum (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...Hsnay2aMfIWoXg) is most likely your best source for locating the oil pressure cutoff switch. He is also the one who answered your post over in Ford-Truck forum. I would send him a private message asking if he knows of a source for this switch.

Do not forget that you have both a Oil pressure cuttoff switch and an inertia switch (under the dash). Either one of those can cause the fuel pump relay to not energize. Also there are 3 fusible links that could create a problem (might even be assiciated with your charging problem). Schematic Pdf page 326 of the manual.

Have you tried Ford? I had mine go bad on my 88 and that is where I was able to get it. Also, you might be able to cross reference the Ford number over to a NAPA number.

I have not tried ford, good idea. I do not know the number on the switch do you think they could just match it up or is that asking them too much

Ford should be able to match that part for you. Another avenue is to call Freightliner since they bought the John Deere/Oshkosh line and have responsibility for the replacement parts. Here is the contact info:

Freightliner
800.385.4357

Also, reference your motor as an E-350 and you should be able to match parts that way as well. Keep in mind that while your Limited is a 1991 the motor/chassis can be almost any previous year. The VIN will tell you that. My 1988 has a 1987 chassis and motor which gets me in the year where both EFI and carbureted engines were used.

I called freightliner and got the impression that they could care less, I did manage to get them to send me a build sheet. They did not seem to be able to answer any questions I asked about my chassis. Perhaps it was just the person I spoke with. but they did not seem very helpful at all.

My experience, from a few years ago was that Freightliner was very helpful. The problem they have is that all documentation is only on paper for these old chassis. Would not surprise me if that was a hurtle at their end to answer your problems. Feel free to download the chassis manual from '89JD Manual. It is a big file. I did find a picture of the oil pressure sending unit in the instrument section. It also refers you to the FORD engine manual. A F250 or E350 are very close cousins for getting parts. Any auto parts store should carry the pressure switch.

Like rsflight I am surprised at the response you received from Freightliner. Just last Summer I had to call them about a replacement lower radiator hose for my 88 Limited and they were very helpful. Did they ask you for your Ford VIN or Fleetwood Serial number? What you really need is the JD Parts manual for your unit. I have one for my 88. Let me know if you still have problems locating that part, I can look at my part manual and get the number of the one listed. At least it will be a place to start.

They did ask for the vin number and then told me all they had was a copy of the build sheet and the belt routing diagram which they sent to me. From the build sheet I discovered I had the 90 gallon fuel tank and the cruise control options

I called them a second time trying to get all new flex brake hoses and they said they had no idea what I needed to look online.

rsflight,

I have the JD service manual electronically but the parts manual in hard copy only. I will see what I can do about trying to scan or finding an electronic copy.

Can you get the part number for the oil pressure cutoff switch that controls the fuel pump and any other info on it for me.
