Yes I posted that link, what I described was adjusting the high-speed idle jet. It is there for a reason, to adjust the high-speed fuel without tampering with any idle/governor linkages.

Rather than mess with the old carb, I bought a non-OEM new one on eBay - $32 shipped! It arrived quickly from a US source, and the install was trivial.
So far, it's fine.
