Our First Motorhome

In 1962 my dad wanted to find a better way to take our family camping. We normally camped out of a 1959 Chevy Station Wagon. He found this used 1960 GMC Walk In Van and proceeded to convert it into our first motorhome. It had fold down bunks for us two kids and permenant bunks for mom and dad. He also built a small sink area with a two burner stove. The refridgerator was an old Servel Gas home model which was converted to run on propane. The original engine was a six cylinder which was replaced with a 1956 316 CID Pontiac Bonneville and automatic transmission. As you can see in the picture we were surfers and carried our surfboards on the side of the rig. We also from time to time towed a three wheel Cushman motor scooter.
Ahhh, those were the days!
