Painting bumper cover

We recently purchased a 94 Bounder 32 H
The front bumper cover and an area above the front wheel wells appears to be some type of plastic.
Anyway, it looks kind of rough and I'd like to paint it.
So, I'm wondering what kind of paint to use and if there is any special prep work required

Why do you want to paint it is it because it's dull with no shine or is it all chipped up? If it's because it's dull get some wet sand paper and try to sand off the oxidation and then buff it with polishing compound to get the shine back. Or you can try zep floor polish and apply a couple of coat's .

Scuffed

The "bumper" is scuffed and scratched.
Also, since it is of a different material than the "basement", it now looks like a completely different color.
The paint on the basement is also in rough shape. It looks like someone tried to buff it and failed miserably.
So, I'd like to paint both areas for a uniform and much nicer look.

You could wet sand it so the paint has some thing to attach to and clean the area really good . then try some place like home depot and buy some spray can's made for covering plastic. I don't know if you would be able to get the same exact shade of paint. Try to spray it on some thing and hold it to the paint your trying to match.

Hmmmm

I guess I will probably have to paint the plastic twice.
One coat with a paint engineered for plastic.
Then a compatible top coat so the paint matches the basement.

Call your local Sherwin Williams Automotive finishes. They can walk you through the required steps, which is both a primer and an adhesion promoter for the plastic (don't remember which is first). If you have the paint code sheet inside the closet door the match will be near perfect. I painted the entire lower half of my former Pace arrow, and it turned out better than I would have hoped. Some of the earlier colors are discontinued, but they were able to find some in another state.

kgchampagne is on the right track.

Don't use spray cans, you will be disappointed. Buy, rent or borrow an air compressor and get a cheap HVLP spray gun. As stated, with plastic you will need to use a adhesion promoter/flex agent in all layers of the finish.

I'm all for DIY body and paint but if you are going to do a decent job of it its going to take some education and an investment in tools.

This is the best forum on the subject I have found: Autobodystore Forums

Thanks

Thanks for the input.
I should have the original paint codes. I have the original factory build sheet as well as the sheets inside the closet door. I haven't checked either yet.

Any decent A.uto paint supply should be able to scan and mix your colour. Tell them what its for and they know how to mix. They can also fill spray bombs with your colour. Good luck with your project.
P.s. Practice on a scrap piece of metal with a cheap can of paint to learn the proper ways. It does take practice.

No experience with fiber glassing but I took it on with pretty good results I think. I used spray cans From a NAPA Store known for paint matches. Bring a piece from the MH for them to match too yes sanding and prep are very important.
Take Pics so we can see before and after and
