Parts

Hello,
I have purchased a 1977 Dodge Sportsman RV and it needs work. My mechanic can't find parts for it. Front end is shot, need bushings, tie rods etc, carburetor, engine seal, tires ( 6 ) not sure of the size. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The RV is in Florida. Than you.

Where is he checking? When I did mine 1976 Sportman seven or eight years ago I had no issues getting everything I needed. Brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders, caliper repair kits, hoses etc. Water pump, carb kit heater core, the list goes on. This was from a parts store in a town of 500. Napa, O'Reily, AutoZone Car Quest they should all be able to get what you need.

I am guessing 16.5 rims. Firestone was still making 8.75x16.5 tires last I looked. Or buy 16 inch rims and convert to a modern tire size.

Good luck to you.

Get different mechanic or source parts yourself.. sorry.. but dodge really should be no problem.. it's a class c? Right? So use dodge van parts..
For carb.. put aftermarket intake manifold on it and 850 Holley spread bore..
How many miles.. bet carb just needs good cleaning.. but at 150 p/h maybe new one would be better.. do you still have emission inspection ?
If not great power can be had with new cam and lifters..
Good luck and keep us posted

Yeah, sounds like you need to find another mechanic, one that knows how to use the inter-web.

Moog has everything you need.

Order direct from them or search the part numbers on ebay or Amazon.

Other parts you need are readily found online.

Figure out exact chassis used. Check out eBay Detroit Axle ,has full kits at about a couple parts cost and no pressing in ball joints and bushings ect. You just swap out full part. You just have to watch out for say tie rod end that might be not exact same length. Just would be off to thread on to same place lock nut was ect. A digital caliper or rough adjustments before an alignment works.
I have bought rack and opinions and front end kits from Detroit Axle . Shipping is fast parts have grease fitting on modern one that didn't OEM.

Your mechanic just doesn't want to work on your rig, find someone else or better yet do the work yourself because you're going to be hemorraging cash quick. Check out rockauto.com, search for parts for your chassis and make sure you select the parts that specify RV applications instead of the regular van parts.
Firestone still makes Transforce tires in 16.5 x8.00, or do what most of us do and find some Power Kings in 16.5x8.25 and do't lose any sleep over it. OR OR change rims to 16's and you'll find a lot more tire options.

OK one thing in current terms, parts are being affected by supply chain problems so there may some delays in getting parts. I haven't been able to get a driveshaft u-joint for my TJ Wrangler for weeks.
