Our 1992 Challenger

Our first MH and lesson, 1992 Challenger by Damon. We have learned ALOT from our one month of ownership! Tires LOOKED good at first, but both rear inside tires shot, outside tires not much better, front tires new. 115,000 miles on the odometer which "ain't nothin' " according to the seller. Onan 4000 ran just long enough to make the sell (still working on that). Potable water tank fill hose torn (repaired today), and learned that she only gets 5.1 mpg. (454 engine). Now the good: Brand new A/C compressor and hoses installed, all new brakes and hoses, fairly fresh rubber roof, no leaks after hurricane Irma came thru (4 days of hard rain), all carpet/bfloor covering new, all appliances, pumps, tanks, drains in good condition, new charger/converter, engine, tranny, exhaust in good shape and ZERO leaks. We have taken her out twice now and absolutely LOVE it! We paid $6,500 for her with no regrets (tires coming).

Did you check the build date on the tires before you bought it? Not that that would have turned you away, but you would have been expecting the expense.

Yes, I did check for that number, but what was on there didn't look anything like the number I was looking for. It's all good. We'll put rear tires on it. Already researched, found 4 installed mounted and balanced for $1000. I'll keep looking too.

The build date is the last of a string of numbers that starts with "DOT." (Without the quotes. There will be a couple of sets of digits which may be numbers, letters, or a combination. The third (or last) set will be the build date, which, if they were made since the year 2000, should be four digits. The first two are the week of the year, the last two are the last two digits of the year. So (if the picture posts properly), the date code on this tire is 3916, which, off the top of my head, should be late in September of 2016.

Where this all goes south is if the tire was made before 2000 (in which case you should throw them away) or if you are looking on the wrong side of the tire, since on most tires the code is only on one side of the tire.

Well, I thought I knew how to post photos, but apparently I don't.

Very nice looking rig. We also tow a Wrangler with all 4 on the ground as I didn't want to deal with a dolly or trailer.
