Roof caulking for re-seal
I've been caulking roof and have a question about what I've found. Around the two powered vents are sheets of some thin rubber like material. They lay 4-6 inches around the perimeter. It appears that they are not necessarily sealed to the roof membrane. There is ample sealant around the openings. One of these "sheets" also surrounds the base of a vent stack as it's close to power vent. As these are not particularly sealed to roof, can/should they be removed before adhesive primer and sealant coat are applied?

I'm wondering if the "thin rubber like material" might be Eternabond tape. It comes in various widths and if applied to a dry and clean surface is a very good seal for long seams, tears, etc.

No, it's . much thinner. Like a rubber sheet or vinyl table cloth thickness. Not fastened except near opening. There is plenty of "caulk goo" around penetrations. It, of course, is 23 model years old tears easily. The Alpha coating uses an adhesive/primer before the "coat". I'm thinking to cut it back or off before application. Can't figure why this stuff is there.

I'd remove it, since it doesn't seem to be well adhered or proper patching. See what it's covering, then use Eternabond is it's needed. No point spending money and your labor applying sealer over bad patches.

eternabond
about three years ago I used eternabond on my coach's metal roof, I ran down the length of the motorhome on 2 seams and then around the vents. If I were to do it over ,I would clean the metal (wire wheel) and, any old caulking off and, re-caulk real nice and clean, even taping off areas. Eternabond looks too much like a patch job and the edges of the plastic face are starting to curl up now. I will say this, it does not leak

Yeah. My feeling is to remove it (if it EVER STOPS RAINING). I kind of see what was to do, but don't understand why. I would rather have the new coating on solid material and up the risers of the openings.
