Serial Number 1971 Tag Along

We just bought a 1971 Tag Along 15' Trailer. Gutted. Planning to rebuild. We are looking to register in RI and will need a.VIN. I've read that on older campers the Serial Number is the VIN. Where is it?
Does.anyone know anything about registering in RI. All we have is Bill of sale. Last owner never registered.

A trailer that old might not have a formal VIN. It more likely will have a serial number or production number. So don't look for the modern VIN format. Look for a plate near the entry door and another on the tongue or forward on the curb side siding. They often get painted over.

I have no idea about the paperwork questions. Ask them or go to their website. I'd have done that before the purchase, myself. Incomplete paperwork isn't something I care to unravel.
