At the end of the day, you get no better than for which you pay. I'd rather make up my own cable by putting the end on myself and wiring it into my box. I know that I can buy insulation that stays soft at cooler temperatures and that there are flexible cables with finely stranded wire and with any luck I can go up one size on the wire for those times when I want to draw the full current rating.

So how would I slice down the length of it if I want to put something else softer but just a protective around it? (Please don't say very carefully LOL). Or If I took both ends of the wiring apart, would they simply pull straight out?Would it be protected enough to run the wiring thru a heavy duty (but not as hard coated I guess) lawn and garden hose maybe?
Then I could do the reel system.

Having at one point worked for a major cable manufacturer you had me startled with that one! DO NOT TRY THAT!
The stiffness is only partly the outside jacket. Conductor extruded jacketing will also stiffen with age. Plus, no matter how careful you are, it is quite " unlikely" you will be able to remove the outer jacket without damaging a conductor. You may not find out until you have a short and the resulting consequences.
I agree with others that suggest buying a length of 8 gauge, 3 conductor cable and ad the appropriate 30amp plug.
Although, buying a premanufactured molded RV replacement cord would be easier, not that much more $$ and safer!

Another source is Boating supply stores. Marinco has made cords for boaters and RVers for a long, long time. A bit pricey though.....

I figured as much but thought I would ask anyway. I likely wouldn't have felt comfortable taking the risk anyway.
What do I do with this recommended 8 gauge, 3 conductor cable however?
To my knowledge, I already have the correct 30 amp adapter (it even has a cool handle on it, LOL). I do still need something recommended in The Complete Idiot's Guide to Rving 2nd Edition, some kind of meter to add to the plug when plugging in at a campground.

That 30 amp adapter(plug) is probably useable. If it is not molded and has screws to disassemble, you can just add the new cable to it. You can make it the length that works for you. 50 feet is probably the average.

Great Idea!!

Probably less expensive too. I don't do Amazon. Why spend extra money plus shipping or Prime when Walmart.com will ship it to a store on your route, for a discount. I bought a 50amp extension cord from them, tried it out once and have not used it since. Great Quality!!!

If you have a small door that your cable comes out of make a short cable long enough to reach outside.put a male end on. Now take your long cable and put a female end on so it is now a lead cord. Store where you want.
