Starter wiring
Good evening all,
Could someone direct me to a starter wiring diagram for my beast. I have been thru all the wiring diagrams I could find but they only show the basics.
I was having an issue with the chassis battery not charging (was in a post last year but I cant find it). The alternator was not sensing the battery so it was not putting out a charge. I ran a jumper from the alternator to the battery and it charges just fine. I was under the rig today changing the oil and tranny filter and had a look at the starter. There is 3 red wires 12-14 gauge or so coming out of the harness and a purplish one that continues on in the harness. 2 of the red wires run up to the starter solenoid, I assume to the "R" and "S" terminals. The 3rd red wire is broken, doesnt look cut , more torn off. It comes out of the harness about 3 inches but I do not see any other broken wire that this 1 would connect to. I am assuming that this may be my charging issue but need a hand locating a diagram or some knowledge as to where the 3rd wire is supposed to go.

Quite possible that it should connect to the starter main cable for the sense of battery voltage.
So I'll assume you need an 88 Chevy motor home chassis wiring diagram to confirm.
I'll see what I can dig up.

starter wire
In the 80's sometimes they put a fuseable link at the starter battery post to the alternator. If you don't find a diagram i would check for continuity from the missing wire to the alternator + terminal , or look closely at the starter lug for remnants of a connector. safe travels

Yes there is continuity from the broken wire to the + post on the alternator. I searched high and low on the starter for the other end of the broken wire, no ring, clip, connector of any sort that I can see and no connection to the main battery feed either, so I am a little perplexed as to where that broken wire ran to. With the key off there no volts, key on there was just under 1 v from the broken wire.

starter wire
If you hook the broken wire to the battery plus wire it will charge the chassis battery as it should.
if you want to be able to charge the coach battery also this connection is where you would add that system.
If you want a diagram to do that let us know. safe travels
