I was under the rv by the gearbox watching when my mechanic friend turned the steering wheel, so I got to see the shaft from the steering wheel turn about a quarter turn before the shaft coming out of the other side of the gearbox start moving. He explained that the reason why the steering wheel could turn so much before engaging the other shaft (he used more technical wording) was because the gears in the steering gear box have been worn down, and his recommendation was to replace it. I did see what you were describing, and I think he was right about that.
I am very thankful for all of this help and advice.

I think that i have found the right part now, but i won't know for sure until i can get back to rv, (I live in st louis, Missouri and the rv is unfortunately still sitting in Harrison, Arkansas) so here in the next couple of weeks I will be heading back there to get it fixed.

Hopefully that answers both of your questions.

If you buy from Advance Auto buy it online and pick up in the store. There are always coupons available for online customers. “COUPON25” works frequently and will save you 25% on many parts
