Surprised at the wasted space, 86 Coachmen Classic
Opening up all the cavities for the myriad repairs I'm doing, I'm becoming quite amazed at the wasted (i.e. unreachable and therefore unusable) space in this rig. I understand the limitations established by where certain things have to go, but there are literally dozens of cubic feet of dead space (and, as a Navy man, I abhor unusable space) that is frustrating to me. I was already considering raising the bunks in the rear by a few inches (to make getting in and out a tad easier for the wife and I) and widening them a couple as well, since I'm virtually rebuilding the entire rear of the coach anyway... the old Pace Arrow I had wasn't quite as bad, since it was all flat planes. Just thought I'd rant a little about it, especially since the two so-called "closets" provided MIGHT hold six shirts and pairs of pants each..... I'm considering a homebuilt version of the Navy bunk I spent six years in. It would be hinged along the back edge, possibly with support spring/shocks, with about as much storage area built under it as the gennie box will allow, and the water tank on the other side. Both would still need to have removable "floors" to access the pump and the electrical gear.
