My wife and I have been talking more serious about that Revcon, but have not called on it. I'm about 3 hours away, but typically go down there over Easter, so it would be no big deal to go over and take a look. I do feel your pain, I've been trying to buy an RL 24 sailboat off this guy in PA for over a year. First he didn't have a title. I got a response stating he straightened that out, but I can't get the guy to return any more calls to arrange to go see it. Its driving me nuts, because its exactly what I want, and the only one for sale in the US. I think what happens is these people list stuff on Craigslist, and then are too afraid to talk to anyone out of state. They see the area code and refuse to pick up the phone, because they are afraid of a scam.

While your at it add an early 90's American Eagle. Mine has cost, I sold a 2006 and we bought this old girl.

It has corian countertops, the original hardwood in the kitchen, nice carpet, leather couch and chairs. A stand alone ice maker. We have done lots to it and I doubt its done yet. New mattress, fridge, this summer, 1 of the furnaces, updated water heater controls, updated hookup for the propane tank and pressure testing, 1 new levelor, new tires, our biggest expense. And just routine maintenance is high. We put on new hoses, filters, AC unit, heater hoses all under the dash. Remember on these old ones the rubber stuff gets rotten, liquid roof and everything up top new. It's a project and on going but I love to drive it and have so far about 10k miles. We will likely keep this old one but we have toyed with buying a newer one. But they all need work so why bother.

Good luck on your decision and have a checkbook handy!!

Just bought this 84 Holiday Rambler 3 weeks ago for 5k. Considering it a one-owner with the manuals, guess I stole it.

Congrats!
I just purchased one for $4k. Been stored inside its entire life and the paint is impeccable! At least they told me it was...still haven't seen it for myself. It is broken down in Chicago on its way to my home and I am 500 miles away. Hoping to see it one day soon!
Hope you have better luck!
Where did you get yours? I looked everywhere for weeks to find mine.

I think it's a broken axle. Not 100% sure. Total loss of power on interstate, as if it slipped into neutral. Rear brake appeared to be smoking. Tow driver noticed the rear wheel didn't look aligned. It was a Sunday and we towed it to a place that doesn't work on RVs. It was a gamble since nobody is open on Sunday and the driver thought the international dealer would be best place to tow it. Spoke to a few mechanics in Chicago. Had to pay another 700 to tow it to next mechanic. Trying to get it hauled 500 miles to my house for a grand instead.

Well, that's certainly a thought. That "smoke" might not have come from a brake. It could have been a wheel/axle bearing? Resulting smell would have been WAY different. Burning/overheated diff fluid and overheated brake lining both pretty pungent smells - but very different, and easily recognized by anyone with any experience? I'll bet you can STILL smell it?

How would they tow something like that? Lifting/towing from the rear might not work out real well?

Best of luck!

I found it on Craigslist in south Alabama. Just got in and drove it home. Engine ran a little rough for a few miles. It was in storage for a good while. After a while, engine ran very smoothly. No oil leaks that I can find, so all the seals seems to be okay. Serviced the Onan generator this last weekend and checked all the plumbing, no leaks found. I may have to replace the water pump, it's not wanting to shut off. Getting it all cleaned this week for maybe a short trip this weekend to work out any issues not yet surfaced.

Before replacing the pump check for air in any of the system. Run all facets on cold and hot if there is any air the pump will run

It's at 4655 South Central Avenue
Chicago, IL*60638. If you are in the area I would love for you to swing by and let me know if you think it's the axle. The dealership is probably getting tired of it sitting there!

I sure hope Daveinet (Dave?) is close enough to go have a quick look. As he says, should be easy see if it's a bad axle, driveshaft, or trans.

I hope its something simple, and you get it home. I'd be scratching the walls wondering.
Fingers crossed,
Tim

I was hoping we'd get an update this weekend.

Any news?
