Temp Awning Patch

Hey everyone!
Well, we leave TODAY for our rigs maiden voyage for us
7500 miles in 16 days!
I've spent 2 weeks getting the carbureted 460 up to par and all the accessories working.
Got everything but the refrigerator working properly, we're just going to deal with that for now.
I'll be able to tinker with it along the way.

I noticed today that the awning has a little bit of fraying around the edges.
I imagine the best option will be to just replace it but that's not practical at the moment.

Is there any reason I can't just put some gorilla tape on it for now, just to make it last a couple more weeks?

I'm very appreciative of this forum and look forward to updating you all on our progress!

Use sail repair tape from West Marine.

X2. I found a sail repair shop and stopped in. They had a bin of sail repair scraps that they let me pick through without charge. Works great.

I think this stuff is clear so it shouldn't look too bad:

Sure, putting tape on that to buy some time before replacement will work. Any good weather/water proof table would be fine. Be sure and give extra tape to the longer rips up near the top, those look like they are likely to be the weak spots in the awning - I'd put tape both top and bottom on those. It would probably be prudent to bring in the awning when there is any sort of a big breeze, just to help it last a little longer.

Kind of pricey, but I've used Flex Tape on cracks like that and then used the Flex Seal spray over it.

Works great!!!

Thanks everyone!
Ended up getting some of the clear gorilla tape, for now.
The sail repair is brilliant!
Thought we may pop in to some of the "RV Superstores" along the way, too, just to check it out.

We're about 500 miles into 7000. Drove through that nasty storm around Nashville, TN last night!
No opportunity to use the awning, yet.

I painted mine with Flex Seal. One quart goes a long way.
I think I can get another year or two out of it.

How is your rig holding up?
Love to hear about your 7500 mile adventure! I'm sure you have had a few things pop up here and there, that's quite the shake-down cruise! My first trip with my 1987, the carburetor caught fire!
