I haven't a clue what I have here... in terms of something I should keep and restore... or is it past refurbishing?

And... if it is possible to reuse, what has to be done to make it functional?

Front side don't look bad but that back area don't look all that great. New toilets are around $75. or better than over a $100. Your call.If you see any stress cracking or the flapper is sticking replace it.

Wow,

, you could have pulled the toilet off the floor without pulling the whole tank and floor out of the coach! Sorry I just could'nt resist saying that. As mentioned you may find it better to get a new toilet. Get one the height you want and you should be good to go!

LOL... what floor?
The pictures below show what remains of what floor there was back in the left rear corner of the trailer when I got it! Something leaked for a long long time...

I should have taken a "before" picture to make this more relatable... but, notice the piece of original flooring... from there rearward... was rotted... so completely in points that I had NO idea of how the orginal construction was!

Ok... but, I still a quick primer on these toilets with tanks... and what the 12 volts is for?

I know growing up in a family with 5 of us kids and only two potties... I wished many a time the toilet was wired up and we could have thrown the switch from outside the door to gain access to the more badly needed facilties!

There were only 2 types of toilets that I can recall that took 12V hookups. The most likely was a recirculating toilet from Thetford. We had them in tour buses. You would filter the water and keep using it until it would no longer go through the filter. At that time you would dump into the holding tank, recharge with fresh water and chemical and go to it again. They really were trouble free and worked great. For a very short time some toilets used propane to burn off the waste but these were more often found in backwood cabins than RVs. If you can find a model # you can call Thetford in Ann Arbor, MI. and get info.

bsinmich, you remember the tank dump they had in some of the early Dodge chassis? You had a valve to open, and you could go down the highway and it would dump in the exhaust system and burn or steam it clean. You got to your next camp and the tank was empty. Also had only one tank for both the black and grey?? They would get us for sure if we went through emissions today with that!!!

Inalabama, thank you. I just came into this thread and your photos just made me feel a whole lot better about the condition of my rig

This at a time when I really, really needed it. . .

I just checked it out. Wow! I feel about the Overland folks about the same way you do about Frolic. Did you at least have plywood for subflooring? I have particle board front to rear. to beef up the repairs I have done, I patched large sections at a time: the whole kitchen, the entryway and half of the common area, I'm doing the bathroom now. I'm actually doing more intense work in the bathroom than in the other areas, as this is an area that gets wet a lot. 'course, I may add tile to the kitchen as well. these are temp patches as I need a place to do the work that will allow that kind of work to be done. that may take quite a while to find. . . Well, that and the money to do it. . .

The subfloor platform of the trailer was good quality 19/32" plyood.

I don't know RV Wizard made the comment earlier in this thread about me being stupid... All the floor was rotted as were the timbers beneath in that area. Look at other pictures I've posted elsewhere on the site... there was other water damage.

At this point I'm at now, I've lost my contempth for Frolic... my plan all along was to find a "shell" and build a floorplane as i wanted it and that's where I'm at now. It's also been so hot that I can't work.

Well, my comtempt is not for Overland, really. It is for that one &^$*$&^$*&^%( beancounter that specified particle board for the subfloor platform because it was cheaper. I'll bet the same guy called for the plastic cabinet doors too. . .

Well, I have a friend that is a carpenter, and she has promissed me that she will join up the wood to make new doors for the cabinets. She has also offered to help with the replacement of the subfloor and the carpentry part of the rebuild. I can do systems all day long, and I *can* do the carpentry. But why would I when she is at least an order of magnitude better at it than I am. Don't get me wrong, I will be doing as much of the work as I can, but it will be as an assistant to her. I am enough of an engineer that I have no shame in deferring to greater expertise.

You took RV Wizard's post entirely wrong!!! He was not referring to you as being stupid....
Your pic showed a toilet that looked as if you had just <span class="ev_code_RED">ripped it up</span> out of the trailer. He was making a joke out of the way it looked to anyone who did not know what you were doing. Not directed at you personally.
