Terry, you guys would love to be here with your race rig. About a half mile from our place here in TN is the Smoky Mountain Speedway. It's a dirt oval, and a very popular and historic track. They're running as I type right now, and do pretty much every Fri and Sat night starting in late March.
Some massive race rigs come here, and sometimes NASCAR drivers show up as well. From what I've heard, it's Rusty Wallace's alma-mater.
Anyway, if you're running tonight, give 'em hell! [emoji469][emoji41]

Electra, great racing down in Tennessee, some of the best for sure! Popeye, LOL no trophies just money! My son was battling for the lead and got pased last lap ended up third, we missed the setup on my car, it was waaay too loose coming off the corners, this is a wicked fast track and group of racers, so in the interest of keeping the car together and not causing an on track incident we pulled off, I'm not running for a track championship like most of these guys so I'd rather park it and let them run.Click image for larger version

When do you get time at track to get it set up right?

Hi Ron, experience plays a big part of setups, everything you do to the car is written down, what shock on which corner, same with the spring rate, ride heights, how much air to put in each tire, how much stagger to run, (stagger is how big the tire is to each other) sometimes you run a wheel spacer on one rear corner, how much gear to put in the rear axle, what jets to put in the carb, all this is figured out based on what the temperature is, how "heavy" is the track that night, in other words how much moisture is in the clay, we get hot laps in the beginning, do the setup for the heat race, if it ran/handled good you might do a few things to hopefully make it better for the feature race. In my case last night we had a new to us race car with no previous info on what made it run/handle, car ran fantastic, good power, but we know how to do that, getting the power to the ground is the tricky part, LOL we ran a spring/shock package that the car ran when last raced at a different track, it handled at the test and tune really well but, big but here, it was 70 degrees out and sunny, last night it was 38 degrees and at night, with almost 2 inches of rain, BIG difference, LOL hot laps it wasn't horrible, heat race it was loose coming off turn 4, did a bunch of changes and just completely missed the setup, but we now know what not to do, maybe, LOL

Knowing what not to do is a good start. I know you will narrow it down and get it better and better.

Sounds like for a first run, it went pretty well Terry!

Good call clearing the way for others, and avoiding creating a wreck.

Remind me what the size track Fonda is? 1/2 mile?

You will get this.

Hi Lloyd, Fonda is a 1/2 mile, interesting facts are it hosted NASCAR cup series races I believe three times.

Terry, just an observation on your photo, little push problem?

I envy you getting to have this fun, again. I only got to run the half mile a couple of times, most of my fun California and Texas was 1/4-3/8 milers.

One of the things I noticed was the 180º headers. You haven’t heard a small block sing until one catches you at the end of the chute diving inside at nine grand. It’s a bear getting passed but some passes are sweeter than others.

Again, I envy you having so much fun, again, again.

Hi Harv, that picture was in the heat race in turn three, it was tight coming in then would snap loose just about the entry to turn four, LOL made it a handful for sure! What made it interesting was that was the only place it did it, more than likely not as much moisture coming in as the other places, later in the night it rubbered up and we didn't have that problem.
