My 1972 RevCon came with a posh water saver circuit that opened a solenoid in the hot water line that emptied back into the fresh water tank while the water warmed up. I re-used the system in my restoration, but had some issues with it recently (old age), so I've re-created the system with modern electronics very simply.
All you need is:
- A normally closed solenoid.
I used this one. This lets hot water flow when activated.
- A programmable timer / relay board
like this one. Tells the solenoid how long to stay open.
- One or more momentary switches (I chose a lighted one similar to the original).
You can find these on Amazon (but the ones I used are discontinued). Activates circuit and light for as long as the timer.
I am in the process of installing this. I am adding a switch up by the kitchen sink so I don't have to go (all the way) to the back of the rig to push the button in the bath area.
My tankless water heater takes
25 seconds (yep) to heat up from dead cold, so this is very worth it.
1. I don't waste much water
2. I don't fill up my gray tank
I hope this helps someone. It's a very easy hack.
