Dirk Harrington, Sr. (Route 66)

It is with deep sadness and heavy heart Andy and the staff let our iRV2 family know Dirk left us today, March 30, 2018.

A Charter Member of iRV2, Dirk loved RV-ing...from his truck camper to his Dutch Star, tooling around in his blue Corvette, music, his Three Amigo buddies and, of course....ice cream. His valued contributions to iRV2 as a member and his steady, guiding hand as an Administrator with Social Knowledge and iRV2 did much to form iRV2 into what it is today.

Words cannot express the gratitude we have for his passion and service to iRV2. He will be greatly missed by all of us who knew him.

Adios, our friend.

Obituary details may be found here.

We will indeed miss him. Rest In Peace my friend.

Heartfelt condolences to his children Beth , Dirk JR. and the rest of his family.

I met Dirk back in 2007 as we were both Newmar Owners at the time. Dirk and I grew our friendship over the years and Bill and I felt Dirk was a valuable part of iRV2. After Bill and I sold the forum, Dirk stayed on with Andy and provided many years of faithful service to the members of iRV2.

I was with Dirk in the early years of his illness as we were both full timing and it while it was sad to watch the illness progress, Dirk was a fighter.

I will miss him, but for those that knew him I will close with what Dirk always closed ANY text or message.

Adios, Dirk.

Sorry to hear this. I hate to admit it, but when Lori said Dirk was no longer able to follow the thread, I had a bad feeling.

Never met Dirk, (would have loved to of course), no matter, I feel the same.

Sending heartfelt sympathies and wishing God's peace to his family.

Bye Dirk

Dirk (& Richard, aka Hitchhiker) took a chance on me & brought me on board as a Moderator in 2009 & then as an Administrator in 2010. I was honored. I sure gave them both a hard time, but they had faith in me.

Most especially, Dirk taught me to enjoy being part of the staff & I looked to him for guidance & direction. I've lost a good friend & will most certainly miss him.....more than he'd know.

I & Dave send condolences to Beth, Dirk Jr. & their families. May God comfort you & grant you peace knowing your dad is free of pain.

To Dirk: Job well done! Have a cookie....

I never had the pleasure of meeting Dirk. I did read many of his replies to reported posts. I marveled at his wisdom, patience, and leadership qualities. I have no doubt he has left a permanent remembrance to most of us here at iRV2.

Adios, Dirk

Its very difficult as a friend to see someone go before me, my wife or good friend Dirk, who both experienced the same difficulties in passing to a pain free peaceful time.
I wish a time of peace for family and friends , now knowing he is without the pain and at peace.

Adios Dirk, safe travels down Route 66.

It is with a deep sense of loss that we have heard of the passing of our friend Route66.

My memory goes back to January 2002 and the 1st iRV2 exhibition. Warpath, Bill Rowell, rented a space at the Florida RV Trade Show and Richard Hale, Dave George, Dirk and I setup the booth to show off the iRV2 website. A trifold brochure was produced by the team and we handed those out to the public. In 2002 the Internet was fairly new technology and RV forums were certainly an infant service that barely got the interest of show attendees.

The local telephone company provided us with a phone line. We hooked up a DSL line and using a laptop, we were able to show iRV2 on a 20 inch NEC monitor. From day 1 at the show, we all believed that we made great start and that iRV2 was here to stay. I do very much remember that big Dirk Harrington smile.

Since that time, Dirk assumed a much greater role in the day to day activities and administration of iRV2 and we are all going to miss his friendship, dedication to the job and steady guidance that he provided.

Rest well sir, you will be missed.
