Changes to Ontario Driver's Licence Classification

Okay, this is something that could be beneficial to most motorhome owners in Ontario, and by extension, to other RVers, particularly those who are towing big and heavy 5th Wheels.

MTO is amending the weight limit that one can drive with a standard, class G licence in Ontario, from 11,000kg to 14,000kg (total weight, including tow and towed vehicles). This will definitively help those in the grey area of requiring a Class D licence in order to drive a heavy motorhome plus a heavy toad.

They speak some sort of "recreational vehicle learning modules approved by the Ministry", required to be completed by the licencee, who will now have a class G licence with endorsement, in order to legally drive an RV.

They also mention a "compliance sticker" that the RV will be required to bear. See link below.

What is not clear is if this will impact or how it will impact those of us with lighter weight motorhomes. Maybe now all RVers will be required to take said modules? Hopefully they will provide more updates soon, as they indicate that the changes are taking effect on 01-Jul-2025.

Pretty vague list there, for what its worth 14 000 KG converts to 30 864 lbs which really opens up the diesel pusher market. I suspect the endorsement will be for air brakes
