Got excited when I found iRV2 and after getting registered and all, started reading through postings when low and behold I ran into a reference to the Canada section so here I am. I definitly will be reading through this forum as I see already people are asking some of the same questions I have about getting supplies in Canada without having to pay blood money to UPS for bringing it in.

Just bought new Jayco Jay Feather 29N and are letting dealer store it for us till April. I was just thinking last night that we probably could take the trailer out for one quick weekend but woke up this morning to our first dusting of snow which brought me back to my senses. Oh well the winter will go by fast (BS I bet this will be the longest ever). Wife & I already have gone down and just sat in the trailer for a little 'fix'.

Well, best do some reading now, will definitly be writing later.

453 days till retirement.

Hello WillYum,

Prince George, eh!! !! (it would be nice to have a clapping smiley) rockman is out there in BC and they do their camping in winter.

I'm out here in the land without snow to speak of yet. But it's also the land of too much rain this fall.

And there are many Canucks in between

Ya, I read some of Rockman's comments about camping in the winter. He won't have to worry about me crowding him out of a campsite. I'm afraid I'm a dedicated warm weather camper. I got enough of that cold weather camping when I was a scout leader up in Hudson's Hope. Besides I am going to be retired soon and will definitly consider it 'roughing it' if I can't find a level spot to park.

Anyway, we have purchased property and intend to build in Midway, BC, just north of the US border. In fact I have told everyone that if I spit south it will have to have a passport. We intend to use this as our home base and wander around North America from there.

Our first major excursion is to be out east around April of 2007 after we retire. I have a brother that is settling down in Nova Scotia next year and my other brother and his wife who live here in Prince George, myself and better half (she's watching this), Susan, will take a nice slow trip in the new TT over there.

Other than that we don't have any definite plans for future trips although my wife has a sister that is moving to Georgia next year so we may wander down and see them. We have talked about a trip up to Alaska and then take the ferry back down but haven't even looked into what a 50' outfit would cost on the ferry. Magin' it would cost a fair bit but if we don't spend it the kids will just get it to spend later.

Another trip we are seriously considering is an excursion around Vancouver Island. Only been there once and would like to spend some time really looking it over. We've also never been to the grand canyon, want to spend a week or so hunting dinosaur bones in Drumheller, Alberta, etc.

It will all have to wait for another 453 days until freedom sets in.

Hmm!!! 453 eh! Well, I figure that as Feb 1, 07. I'm 364 days behind you.

AK is very high up on my travel agenda.

But for your trip out east remember us and to check Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism

For ferry rates for here go to: http://www.marineatlantic.ca/
They're not the greatest in the world, but once you get here, Newfoundland sells itself.

Having been retired for over ten years I have ascertained that I work twice as long for half the pay.

HOWEVER.........I am camping or on the road for nothing less than two months per year. Since my retirement my travels have broadened but I can proudly say that I have never gotten lost on my trips...but I have found a heck of a lot of new places!

Yup, you calculated right. 1 Feb, 2007 is Independence Day. I will probably work (Yeah sure, I'll be at the job) a couple of months beyond that because of weather. Not much sense in trying to do anything at that time. I will have about 8 weeks annual vacation coming when I do go so I will not actually be retired until sometime in July but what the heck I will be getting full pay until then and travelin'.

We will have to make sure and get over to Newfoundland during our trip to Nova Scotia. I want to try and see as much as possible. If we don't I'm sure we will be back with a brother over there. He is currently retired Canadian military working for NATO in Virginia and we have been over twice to see him there.

If you happen over this way, Drumheller, Alberta is one place you will want to stop. I was very impressed with the dinosaur museum there when we stopped in '97.

Know what you mean Roadrunner, I figure on starting up a small electrical renovation business myself. One that I can pick & choose jobs but still keep myself in toy money.

I hear and agree Roadrunner, seems I work harder now that I am retired than I ever did at work, and for less dollars. And we also spend nothing less than 3-4 months on the road RVing. It is well worth the extra work for the extra cash to travel.
