I finally cancelled our very expensive Bell Mobility cell service, both Canadian plan and North america plan for winters.....Yikes!
We have bought Tracphone for using while we are in US in winters, and buy the inexpensive prepaid cards...
Now the problem....we need a cell phone for summers at home, and would like the prepaid card system instead of monthly service...Any suggestions?

Check out all of the providers, both from their websites, 800 #s and in person. All contribute a bit. I found the in person added the least, but then I had most of my answers.
I wanted a 1 option cell phone, my regular phone, no land line, coverage for some places where it is just analog, but also where it is digital. I checked areas where I go and had planned to go.
Tell us what you decide.

Hi Paul&Marg I use the Bell pay as You go but it is a rip off.I own the phone as You do with tracphone but the cost is highway robbrey. If I could find a way to use My tracphone here I would also the cells are few and far apart not like the USA I have used the tracphone all over the USA for many years and We have 2 one for Me and one for the Wife. But the Bell system is poor to say the least..If You find a good way to go let Us know..Bushman

We just found out that our daughter uses Virgin Mobile Cell phone for Canada. She is very pleased with the service and convenience of the prepaid cards...The telephone,Nokia, cost under 60$ at Walmart..She feels the telephones are available at many locations,as the prepaid cards are...This sounds like what we have been looking for...as soon as we purchase the Virgin outfit,we will report here....

Thanks paulmarg, look forward to that report. I too am pretty much fed up with Bell. We just quit our "one price, anywhere in Canada long distance plan" in favour of the prepaid cards. A little more "hassle" but we never used the amount of time we paid for with the monthly long distance plan anyway. The monthly land line price in our house is now $100.00+ Wifes cell phone, seperate line for computer and internet service bump that cost up another 70.00 per month . Any alternate service is just what we're looking for aswell.

Do you mean the towers when you say 'cells'?
Brad, I was paying between $30 & $35.00 per month for my land line when I gave it up in June, 2005. My cell phone costs less than that and I do have a long distance plan. I have Telus. I found the cards offered in this area wouldn't do. That cell phone is my sole phone. The thing is you have to remember to carry it.

Oh, what an awful idea I just had.
Greetings Mr. Bush.............................................. ............................... man!
{{not of 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 2000xx xxxxx}}
Yes, I know about analog and digital. The phone I had last summer had more analog capability. The one now, I'm not sure. Have a look at these http://www.comparecellular.com/cover...telus.asp?l=#7
I think you can see where the big analog holes are and need to be filled in.
I was in Gaspe, the town of Gaspe last year. I had found the father of a girlfriend from backpacking days and gotten a phone # for her. I had thought there would be a digital circle around Gaspe the way there is around Labrador towns, but no, not there. I was well down the Gaspe Peninsula before I could connect with her in Bathurst. So far, in this province, hilly, rocky or no, I've managed to connect with various towers, even if they are spread well apart. Towers are very important in this place with well spread populations.
Doggies are chubby, but back on summer rations. Now to get mommy into her bathing suit!!! Mommy had a winter brekky this morn. maybe. Babes want to be outside. Quite recently, maybe just last Saturday, maybe two weeks ago, we had a visit from a fox. Mommy thought coyote and gradually became convinced that it was a fox. He, who is a taxidermist and has lived 400 to 600 feet uphill towards the woods from me all his life, says there are coyotes further up the hill, but he has not seen their tracks down by his house. Fox tracks he sees all winter. Mommy was shocked and more shocked that she was so shocked. Coyotes can take down caribou. If they want a meal of home pet dog or two dogs, they have been known to go get that meal. Fox and coyote heads look a lot alike on the Net. & Mommy may not be as worried now as she was, but Mommy is being more careful of when she lets her babes be tethered on outside. No, Mommy has not posted that in pets here, but did in two other forums.
& LK would like to see more pics of your lively little lassie.
BTW does your cell phone take pics.

We picked up a 39.99 disposable cell phone in Fla. at W mart this winter....got 300 min with it @ $.10/min and it worked great. Used the minutes up at the end back here in Ontario no problem.....however the deduction for Cdn calls was @ $.15/min. No LD charges for N.A. but can't call Eu etc. That was MUCH cheaper than adding the 100 min no LD/no roaming onto our Rogers. BTW the Nokia cheapie had a MUCH better battery than our regular Nokia...Charged in less than 2 hrs and was on for more than 2 wks at a time without the batt getting weak. I charged it 3 times in 3 months just 'on spec' including the initial charge. At the end of 3 months/300 minutes it gets recycled and when we need another we start new....adding minutes adds up and when home we use the Rogers anyway.

Do laptops have different quirks than desktop PCs?
I plan to get a laptop to have on the road. Buy in summer and take on fall trip.
Coyotes take down bigger animals than you think. My girls have confidence, but Kwitnm has had an experience that made her fear for her life. We were up on a plateau out the back of beyond camped with the truck and wooden cap. In those days senior dog did security duty and other one slept in truck. Since then she has made it clear, she will stay outside, but not alone. Two dogs are better than one. Numbers count. Many coyotes these days are bigger than my babes.
Hope your laptop is given new life soon.
& your cell learns to take pics.
