We are planning a trip to the balloon festival this October and are planning on staying at the KOA in Bernalillo. Anybody have any first hand experience (good or bad) with this campground?

Anybody have any other suggestions for a campground? Some friends stayed at American RV a few years ago but we are trying to get a location closer to the festival grounds.

Don't know anything about that KOA but why not stay on the Fiesta grounds in their campsites and beat the traffic. All campgrounds in the area jack their prices up during the Fiesta so staying on the grounds is actually cheaper and a heck of alot easier to get to and from the launch site. There is a FREE shuttle from the campsites and if you want you could walk or ride your bike.

I totally agree with Savannah. I was there this past October and I will definitely stay at the Fiesta grounds when I come back next October. You can boondock for a week . . . and it's well worth the inconvenience if you're not into boondocking. You're right in the middle of all the excitement and have a great view of all the launches from your rig if you don't want to go out every day.

We went ahead and reserved seven nights in the Presidents Compound at the Balloon Festival. Thanks for the advice from late last year. We plan on heading out in about a week heading toward ne NM visiting Capulin Volcano Natl Monument then on to the Taos - Santa Fe area to do touristy stuff including the rail ride between Chama and Antonito. While at the Festival we'll see the sights around Albuquerque.

On the way home, we plan to head down toward Alamogordo/White Sands then eastward on US82 to TX. Because of some time constraints and since we'll be heading west next summer for the iRV2 rally we plan to stay in the east half of NM this trip. Went to Carlsbad on a previous trip

You folks that live in the area, do you have any suggestions of places we should see and any nice campgrounds?
