teardrop? in NM?

Where could I find a teardrop in NM? I can't seem to find any and I am very curious about them. Has anyone built thier own? I'm also thinking it would be fun to build one of my own using a 4x8 harbor freight trailer.
Thoughts?

Harbor Freight has a kit with the trailer and a cartop carrier for less than $400. I have one I pull with a motorcycle. Their item number is #66771. If you go this route, find a store that has it in stock. Delivery fees were outrageous and I ended up having to go to the freight companies location to pick it up anyway.

I actually found that there is a local guy getting started up selling the little guy travel trailer. I found them through a jeep forum. The little guy .com

I built a tear drop trailer about six years ago and had a blast doing it. Am thinking about doing another one as my daughter and son-in-law have and are using the first one. If you google "tear drop trailers" you will find many sources of information and parts suppliers. You can use a Harbor Freight trailer, buy an open/flat utility trailer, or do like me and weld from scratch a trailer. The cabin on mine is approx 9' long by 57 inches wide by 4 feet high. I used much information supplied on the internet by Larry and Diane Sorensen out of Hemet, CA. One thing I'd recommend to do differently than what they say is do the floor first rather than later. When building your own you can make it as plain or fancy as you want. Let me know if you want to discuss this further. Regards

I have been very curious about building one my own. I'm not a carpenter or welder. But I can build a few things. I think I would enjoy it more if I built my own. That does seem to be the spirit of a teardrop anyways. I have been looking at the tilt bed harbor freight since the load cap is 1750 or so. I thought I could put some bigger wheels on for the 4x4 trails.
Do you have any pics? I would love to see em to get more ideas.

I'm in Nevada now and the pics are on my home computer in Colorado so I'll send them next week. Building the tear drop was about as much fun as using it has been. You'd probably want to go with bigger tires and wheels if you plan on doing 4x4 trails. Wally World has a 13" wheel & tire combo for $89. I have 33" tires on mine and pull it behind my lifted Jeep Wrangler. Wife & I have camped at some pretty nice & remote places and still had a comfortable place to sleep. The walls, ceiling, and floor are insulated so we stay comfortable and don't get condensation inside. On a side note, a friend of mine who never built anything is his life watched the progress of mine being built and said he thought it was way too small be any good. After borrowing it for a three week trip from Colorado to Ohio and back, he ended up building his own using mine as a pattern. Go figure.

They make a ruff rider that has skid plates and raised up a bit for 4x4 back country over rocks. Jeep friendly. I don't know that I would want one but I am very curious about checking them out.
