Tucson place to stay

Friend of ours is retired (yet still working!) to Tucson. We want to visit him sometime this winter, but only having been through there only once before need some suggestions. We drove through the Tucson area several years ago and about all I can recall is that it was huge in the number of small 'communities' and area wise, it was very scattered out. I seem to recall it was very clean as well. We want this to be sort of a surprise since we have not seen each other since we worked the streets in a B&W in the late 70's. We need a place for couple of weeks or so. Suggestions for non-retirement places?
Wish I knew what area he lives in but if I ask too many questions, he will figure out what the reason I ask. He was a good copper. Does some sort of security for a retirement community

We have two favorite places in Tucson. First "Lazy Days RV Campground", in the south centre of the city, E Irvington Road and S Country Club Rd, just off I-10. It is a little pricey but a nice facility. The second is, Gilbert Ray Campground, a county park, reasonable price, power only on sites, water and dump station available, 2wk max stay. It is a beautiful park out in the country, so nice and quiet, close to Old Tucson Studios and The Arizona Desert Museum. West of city on Kinney Road near W Gates Pass Road. Do not take Gates Pass Road with an RV!!!

Look at Rincon Country West RV Resort. We stayed there long term for 9 years in a row. the facilities are very nice. There are two of them west and east you want West.
