For those planning an Alaska trip from 2007 and on, the Anchorage RV Park has been sold and will no longer be open after this year. Apparantly it was sold to a developer who's going to put housing on the property.
There have been discussions on this on other RV forums, and it was confirmed to us when we stayed there in early/mid August this year.
Too bad really as it was the nicest rv park we stayed at in Alaska this year.

If you are looking for a nice spot go to Bird Creek Campground that is located 20 miles outside of Anchorage. Quiet and nice views. There is a telephone on the campgrounds and a small store/gas station just across the road. Fishing when the Salmon are running is irrisistable! No electric hook ups. Sometimes visited by bears. You have to get there either early or later in the day to reserve a spot--favorite place to stay for quite a few people. Holds somewhere around 35 campsites and offers a atleast 4 outhouses and seasonal campground hosts. A paved walkway and bike trail runs right by the ocean. All along the hyway from Anchorage is beautiful sights and you can pan for gold and purchase Alaska sausage at Indian Valley. We lived in Anchorage for 24 years and it was favorite place to enjoy!!!
