2014 Pittsburgh RV Show
January 11th – 19th 2014
The Pittsburgh RV Show » The Pittsburgh RV Show
I started this thread in case anyone is going (or planning on going) and would like to, maybe, connect with others at the show.
I can only say that if I attend, it will be on one of the weekends. Right now, I'm open both weekends so when I attend will be pretty much be dictated by the weather and/or anything more important that pops up between now and then.
Happy New Year!

Tentatively, we're shooting for Sunday, January 12th. The show opens at 10:00 AM and we're planning to be there 10:30 (ish) as we'll be going to church and having breakfast first.

We always leave the checkbook home!
Yeah, decorating & applying mods to a our 64' x 27-1/2' permanently mounted "RV" will be a whole different experience. Unfortunately, the brutal cold weather here hasn't helped in getting the getting the foundation built. We're now looking at Monday, January 13th to start, weather permitting. I'd be pleased if this happened as it will fit in with my theme of thirteen's and lucky horseshoes.

Maybe he could post that question in the towing forum & see what kind of answers he gets.

The 2014 Pittsburgh RV Show
While I didn’t bring the checkbook, I did bring the credit cards and purchased three bottles of wine from a winery that had a booth at the show. It didn’t improve my wine inventory much as even with the three bottles, my wine rack is only at 17.5% of its capacity.
The show appeared to have a good mix of all RV types. Besides new units, there were a few used motorhomes there too. It was only the second day of the show, yet we already saw a lot of "SOLD" tags.
Every year, I try to find something unusual, innovative, etc. to report on and this year’s show did not disappoint. On Forest River’s Cherokee line of trailers, there is an option called Power Bunk that’s available for any trailer with a Super Slide. It’s two bunks, end-to-end, that are stored under the ceiling of the Super Slide that can be electrically lowered to provide an additional sleeping capacity for up to four people. If you convert both the dinette and sofa to beds, up to eight people can be accommodated in the Super Slide alone. The salesman told me the Power Bunk will hold up to a total of 800 pounds. About the only negatives I could see is that some headroom is lost in the Super Slide and, if you want to leave the dinette as is but lower the Power Bunk, there might not be sufficient clearance between the dinette table and the bottom of the Power Bunk for tall items (like a coffeemaker). Of course, the sofa is unusable when the Power Bunk is in the lowered position. For safety, a key is required to operate the Power Bunk- a good feature to prevent accidental (or intentional) movement of the Power Bunk.
In my opinion, the Power Bunk option could be preferable to a bunkhouse model; especially if you only have to accommodate occasional guests. It also has the ability to hold adults whereas most bunks in bunkhouse models are engineered for children and have weight limits that are much less.
The first TT Chris and I walked through the show had a galley that looked remarkably like a miniature version of the kitchen in our home. Compare the floors in the pictures below.
Jim, I think by June we'll be spending plenty of time at the new house as Chris will be done with school for the summer and there will be a lot of work that still needs to be done.

I saw that Power Bunk last year. It would be good for a slumber party for smaller kids...

Looks great, Jim!
Are you planning to cover the bed with a tonneau cover or cap (topper or whatever you're calling them in Ohio), or are you going to leave the bed open? No matter what you decide on, there's going to be a lot more space for all your "stuff".
Good Luck with it!
For those still contemplating attending Pittsburgh the RV show, you'd better decide quick. You only have today and tomorrow. There's a dollar off admission coupon on the show's website ( The Pittsburgh RV Show » The Pittsburgh RV Show). The Eat 'n Park restaurants had $2 discount coupons, but go pretty quick. They're usually out of them before the show even opens.

No, I'm 99% sure I'm going to leave it open. This morning I took a load of scrap to the recycling center and receiver $33...so putting her to work. Camping I can throw the bikes and firewood in....saving putting them in the RV. So glad I got the tow factory mirrors. That will save 10 minutes each hook up. Then at the campground I'll just push them closed.
This is all in preparation for our Alaska trip in two years...Got the RV...Got the new tow vehicle...Just need to retire....the way things have been going the last year...at work, I would walk tomorrow....too many games going on..

That's one sharp truck, Jim - glad you went with the blue. It'll look real nice with the grey Aerolite. Is the bed liner snap in or sprayed on?
Sounds like the RV business is looking up. Dealers are bringing more to the shows & attendance is definitely up. Guess that means it'll be more crowded at the CG's.

No just the factory bed liner. But it does have bed rail system. Thought about getting a spray in liner, but was quoted near $1000 for it. I'm OK with the factory bedliner with top cap. Did some driving around yesterday, was surprised at how easy it was to back up. It has a rather tight turning radius. Diane will sure like not having to attach the old tow mirrors...I listed my old Huskyliners last night. Most likely the old mirrors will go there too.

I've only had the factory rubber bed mat in the GMC and my previous Ford. However, I installed the factory tailgate liner on the GMC. The Ford didn't have one. I really don't haul anything nasty so these seem to work for me and, because they're rubber, do a good job of keeping things from sliding around in the bed.
Every truck I've owned except the first one has had a tailgate edge guard. I didn't like the aluminum one I had, though. It had a tendency to get this black oxidation that would rub off on your hands and clothes.
Sorry folks, if we got a bit off topic here, but I didn't think anyone would be too upset being the RV show will be over in less than a half hour.
