Southern Ohio State Parks...

While at Burr Oak & Hocking Hills (Ohio) State Parks back a few weeks ago we visited Lake Hope, Tar Hollow, Scioto Trail & Pike Lake State Parks. We started our stay with 2 nights at Burr Oak located about 30 miles east of Hocking Hills.

Here is photo page of Burr Oak, Tar Hollow, Scioto Trail and Pike Lake

Burr Oak~ This year they added electric to about 12 sites. First off the non-electric sites are not made for trailers larger than 25' period at best. There would be maybe 6-7 sites I could even think of getting my 24' into any of the non-electric loop sites. In the electric area they did a poor job in re-paving because all the sites are 90 degree turn-in. The grass in our site appears to not have been cut in 2 months, along with chunks of old broken asphalt laying in the grass. The two areas for tents was very nice. I'm going to have to say this is not a "Pond Piggies" destination.....

Lake Hope~ The campground was very hilly with old paved pads that were so narrow I would be afraid if a wheel went off, it was a 12" drop-off. It was basically built on a ridge over about a miles span. Very hilly and tight. The cabin section was nice. There were a lot of cabins here. Again not a '"pond Piggies" destination.

Tar Hollow~ Nice camping area. There are 3 loops. Loop #1 (Logan Hollow) all electric sites, 40 very large, mostly level sites, grass parking, shady and sunny sites. Loop #2 (Ross Hollow) All electric sites, 28 all paved level and semi level sites, mostly all sunny. They did a nice job here paving the pads. The grass around the campsites is very well maintained. Loop #3 (North Ridge) non-electric wooded tent area. This is a nice park.

Scioto Trail~ Nice small camping area. 40 out of 58 are electric sites, gravel pads, mostly fair sized shaded or part sun sites. They had a few nice large pull-thru sites too. There were a bunch of larger RV units here.

Pike Lake~ Nice 80 site camping area all with electric service. Mostly all level camp sites with about a 1/3 being non-reserverable.
