Anyone have a Toll Tag from the North Texas Toll Authority

I am considering getting a Toll Tag from the NTTA.

We tow a car behind the coach. The NTTA has told me I need a tag in both vehicles.

I am concerned this will result in a double charge. People tow trailers all the time without a toll tag and get charged by the axle count.

What do you Texans do about this?

Have a toll tag in both motorhome and tow because I live here and use both vehicles independently on the tollways. Although I donít tow on toll roads a lot, I went back through the log files and it looks like I get charged for both vehicles when towing.

When you say you get charged for both, does that mean you get charged for two axles for the car and also the correct number of axles (2or 3) for the motorhome, or that you get over charged?

I am interested in this also, I am new to TX and previously lived in states without toll roads so this is all new to us.

We have NTTA and have experienced being charged for the MH towing a toad at the same time the toad is charged independently. So effectively we were being charged twice. I called NTTA and they made the correction over the phone, and my account was credited quickly. In addition, they informed me that I could temporarily disable the toad account, via their website, while it was being towed, therefore I wouldn't get double charged. As much as I dislike toll roads, they were very easy to work with on this issue.

Now, when we are towing our toad, I go to the website and disable the toad's account as necessary. It only takes a minute and saves a lot of hassle.

Hope this helps.

If you drive one vehicle without the other vehicle on the toll roads you need one TT on each vehicle.

I drive my toad on the toll roads so it has a TT. I never drive the MH on the toll road without the toad attached so the MH does not have a TT.

Reading the account statement, it will list 3 or 4 axles when I drive the MH on the toll road.

This is what I was hoping for. The reader picks up the TT on the rear (toad) vehicle but counts all the axles. Is that correct?

If so I'll just get the TT for the toad as i won't be driving the MH without the toad.

I've avoided getting toll tags. Living in Grapevine, I just pick and choose when I want to pay a toll. Being retired, I just don't see a need for a toll tag.

Most toll roads I travel are TT only. And do not offer license plate billing.

There is only one toll road in Tx that requires a toll tag and it is in Houston.
Everywhere else does license plate billing. Good enough for my uses.

All the toll roads in Harris county, that I use (Grand Parkway, Loop 8, Hardy Toll Road, I10 West), are TT only. A toll road in San Antoine I was on recently was TT only.

I use a KTA tag (reciprocal), have one in every vehicle including the DP.

This came up about charging for each vehicle so I called the turnpike authority.
They told me to tape a piece of alum foil over the tag in the towed vehicle, that way only the axle is counted for the toll.

Been doing that for number of years and only get charged by the axle count in the 3 reciprocal states.
