Well our dogs were sprayed again by a skunk outside there yard. Oh what fun it is to bathe them at 10:30 PM. Trying the vets mixture this time. Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda after a bath in dish washing detergent. Seems to work better than anything else we have used.

I hope this is not a spring ritual here.

I have never seen any place that there are so many skunks hit on the highways. Must be 10 times the number of armadillos that you see smashed in Texas.

I hereby nominate the skunk as the offical state mammal for Oklahoma.

Ken

I can only be thankful that we just have to deal with possums and raccoons They stink, but at least they don't spray!

We live in the city, but natural wildlife is abundant, thriving and well adapted in our area!

Last week, our neighbors dog cornered my old possum (she's at least 8-10 years old and completely white haired) who comes up on our back porch to eat Biddle's cat food.

She was on the wrong side of the fence when Molly, the next door neighbors' furrball, cornered her between the fence and their house. A ruckus ensued for 30 minutes (at 11:30 pm mind you) and Ole Possum was ferocious!

We all thought it was "death to the end", but managed to get Molly away from Ole Possum before she killed the yelping pup!

I'll take that ruckus over a stinky dog any day of the week!!!!!!

Hey Ken, one of your "pets" wondered into our camp at the lake last week about 10pm. Almost caused a runaway! Would you please keep them up there with you.

So that is where the one the other night came from. Since the last odor-rific encounter, I have been taking the spot light out back first and checking to be sure we don't have any of the furry black and white visitors. One was in the yard out by the trailer. By the time I was back out there with the .22, he had split. Walked the dogs around front on leashes to be sure they did't get perfumed again.

He did come up from the south, so he must have been yours.

What the vet recommended was new to us. Wash the dog in a mild dishwashing soap and rinse. Mix 1-1/2 tablespoon of baking soda and 16 oz or hydrogen peroxide and immedialtely work this in to the dogs coat. Let it set for 5 minutes and rinse throughly. It does kill off the skunk smell, but may have to be repeated.

Also found a varaition of this highly recomended on the internet.
