We were wondering if anyone is interested in having a get together at Meadows of Dan,Va. in the Blue Ridge mountains the end of May-no wagonmaster, just meet, have a potluck and good fellowship. We are at Jim and Sandy's and have put our heads together over this,we are thinking the weekend of May 29.30.31 and June 1 or longer if anyone wants to stay.Everyone makes their own reservations at 276 952-2292,just let us know if you are going. Hope to see y'all there!

Please note-the dates for this have been changed! Sorry about the mess up on the dates! We just had a small pocket calander with no holidays on it,so didn't realize it was Memorial Day weekend.

Camprgrounds website is:www.meadowsofdancampground.com They have 10 sites reserved for us 5 up on the hill(if you have a big rig or want to use your dish)and 5 down the hill under the trees.

For those of you whom have never been to this area its just a short drive back into Mt Airy, home of Andy Griffith and the Snappy Lunch noted for their infamous porkchop sandwiches.Mt Airy is a quaint little town, that has capitalized on The Andy Griffith show, you can visit Floyds barber shop,go to Mayberry Mall and there was an Aunt Bea's restaurant but things got too hot in the kitchen and it burned down! THere are some neat little shops downtown that have souvenirs from the show. Also near the campground are some neat little shops and a very good Fudge shop-just ask Halfdimes!

Hi Dianne & Tom,

Sylvia and I are interested but we'd prefer a site up at the top of the hill. The sites down below under the trees aren't too level and with a 38' fifth wheel it's tight getting in. We're going to plan on getting there on Thursday 5/22. See y'all there.

We just tried making reservations at Meadows of Dan and they told us there was nothing available that weekend, which is Memorial Day. Rats!

OK, here's what we're doing: We made reservations at River Views Campground in Galax, VA for Friday May 23 thru Monday May 26. Here's their website: River Views

30 amp with W & S is $25/night and 50 amp is $30. They require a one night payment by check as deposit. If you're interested in joining us, call Gary Patton at 276-237-5007 and ask to be put near us. We will be on site 22.

We've never been to this campground but the web pictures look nice and it's not far from Galax and a Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Another update: Diane just telephoned from the road. They and Jim and Sandy have changed the Meadows of Dan Meet and Eat to Thursday May 29 to Sunday June 1. Diane says sites are available at Meadows of Dan that weekend.

Don't know whether we'll be able to make that one or not at this point. Since we have to be somewhere over Memorial Day, we'll still be at River Views if anyone is in the area.

Well shucks, we can't make it to the "Meet and Eat" on that May 29th weekend, we have already made other plans for those dates.

Sylvia and I just discussed it and we'll be going to our favorite CG on Unaka Mountain. Join us if you can.

We already have ten sites reserved at Meadows of Dan and we now have four rigs coming. And checking mapquest Glendale Springs is near Boone and around 78 miles from Meadows of Dan,so not so "near"!

Sure wish we could make it, Meadows of Dan will be nice this time of the year.

In regard to Raccoon Holler, we had 2 or 3 Appalachian Campers' rallies there back in 2002 and 2003 when we were first getting it started. It's a nice little CG and is well worthy of consideration for a future event, maybe in the Summer or Fall.

Again, y'all have a great time @ Meadows of Dan, we'd be there if the date had worked out for us. My son and his wife is coming down from VA that weekend to visit.

Richard,I am sorry that you will not be able to come. There is a new campground just off I74 and hwy 601 in Mount Airy that looks very nice. Dianne and I checked it out Friday. It is called Mayberry campground. I have not looked it up but understand they have a web site. The reason we did not go there this time of year it can be hot and there is no shade trees. Maybe sometime in cooler weather.
