It appears Betty will be attending an educator conference in Atlanta July 20-24 and the school system will pay for the hotel and mileage. The Bounder hotel is ready to roll from her NC home but we would like find some rallies and/or RV related activities to and from the conference. We have a 2 to 3 week window of opportunity before and after the conference. It is very nice of the school system to partially fund one of our summer trips and we want to make sure we enjoy every minute of it. We are members of both Bounder organizations (BU and BOA), GS and soon to be FMCA. Any input is welcome or we will just wonder around aimlessly for days at a time which may just as much fun as a well-planned trip.

Stone Mountain Park in the Atlanta area is a very nice attraction and they have their own campground.... Nothing fancy, but the park and the history of the carving was nice.

Thanks,
We were looking at Stone Mountain Park hoping we could catch the MARTA system downtown. Is there still a MARTA park-and-ride lot at Stone Mountain?

"Regarding public transportation, MARTA, Atlanta's public transportation service, does not provide transportation directly to Stone Mountain Park. It drops off in the city of Stone Mountain, about ½ mile from the Park's West Gate. To contact MARTA, call 404-848-4711 or visit their website...."

July in Atlanta They don't call it 'Hotlanta' for nothing.
Got any idea what part of town you will be in?
Stone Mountain could really use some maintenance as far as the sites go, but there is some interesting things to see there. take a look at Zoo Atlanta, the Cyclorama, The Aquarium and maybe see a Braves game. Take a deep breath and you might have enough by then. The MARTA trains used to be fun to ride when I was a young guy, but haven't been on them in years.
Just be careful as you drive around town. A good city map would be a big plus.

Hi All,
Hey Tmar10, I also agree that stone mountain is not a bad place to stay, I also heard they were working on a bunch of the sites from someone who was just there! So maybe this will fix what doc was talking about, also the laser show is a must see!! Also as far as some of the other things doc was talking about if you go to the Aquarium web page there is info about a six place pass, which will save you I think $40 each! Also the Cyclorama is one of only 3 in the world! I know all this info from someone from Northern NJ might seem weird, but my mother was from there and I spent every summer there, I also was just visting family there last week! Hope this helps some and enjoy the trip

Thanks for the info rebelsbeach, doc and al,
I lived in Athens for a few years in the early eighties and realized the true meaning of "Hotlanta" and it was not referring to the Braves during that time. I went to several games and had no difficulty finding a seat. Betty's meetings will be at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. We are planning to use MARTA for most of our travels into the city.
