35u01,
I can't help you with your problem, but you might also want to post this problem in the workhorse group. Someone there may have had this problem. I would also post on the motorhome "problem solution, and aftermarket" thread, that is pretty active.

Well lets try this again, darn internet...
Okay, from what you describe, it sounds like the transfer switch is at fault. all power passes through this switch, both geni and shore power. Now I don't remember but I think your coach has 50 amp service.
If you are at ease with testing ac voltage, remove the cover from the transfer swithc. Fire up the geni and now test the terminals where the geni connects. Between the white and black and white and red. Should read 120vac. Next find the terminals that go to the circuit breaker panel and measure between the neutral and each hot lead. Should also read 120v ac.
Now shut off the geni and plug into shore power. Lets do the same thing, measure between the white and black and white and red of the shore cord. Now measure the terminals going to the panel and I suspect you will find that you'll only get a reading between either the white & black or the white & red wires.
If that is the case, you have a bad transfer switch and it will need to be replaced. Let me know.

JIM...just reading all that electrical stuff made me nervous...now as far as 35U01 goes I guess he could still fry off his eyebrows if things go wrong !!!!!!!!
Tom, my technical suggestion is to drive up to Holiday to the dealer and have him check it out.

Aw gee Lou, it's not that bad. For small fee I could have my arm twisted to have a look see.
Right now I live in the MH at Lazydays during the week as it is the only thiing I have to drive back and forth. Saves a bundle of money on fuel. Anyway another story.
But all kidding aside, I do believe the problem is in either the shore cord or transfer switch, and I lean more towards the transfer switch. Only time I know of when a shore cord gives you a problem is when you forgot to unplug and you get in and drive away. GUILTY.....but I fixed my problem.......he he he......Let us know Tom.

If is only at one Park, I am guessing that maybe one leg of their electric service is bad. I have run into this three times so far this year, requiring me to use the splitter (one side pluggged into a 30A and the other plugged into the 20A outlet)

Boy after I read Jims technical bullentin I really felt like I didnt know anything!! I got nervous just reading it--I can see me "lighting" myself and the coach up-- I like the info I recd on one of the other threads where it said just hit the transfer case with my hand and it might jog the swith open That I can try !! Joim I wish i had known you were staying there since we were ther "just looking" yesterday and had our coach with us. I will be printing Jim's instructions and might give it a try with the new voltage meter I bought a year ago and never open--now all I have to do is see how that works first !!!!

If you have a 50 amp system it sounds like a bad plug in at the pedestal, if you have an adapter try hooking into the 30 amp receptacle. I had the identical thing happen to me on our first outing, found out it was the camp ground receptacle.

Tom I read your response on the other thread about hitting the transfer case and that is what I tried and it worked !! Now the question is --should I open case and spray some cleaner on the contacts or is this something that will have to be replaced.

They changed mine since it was under warranty. The tech said sometimes the wires are routed too close to the switch, not allowing full contact. So I would check for that condition, might be something you could easily move. Now that you know the source of the problem, use it as is. The switch may not stick often enough to justify the cost of replacement. Good luck.

We had the EXACT same problem when we camped in Alabama last year with our 5th Wheel. We even called the dealer where we purchased our rig, and he was the one who suggested, that perhaps we didn't have a full 50 amps at our site.
So we checked with the Park manager, and sure enough, they had a lightening storm the night before and it knocked out some of their power poles.
So, good advice about checking at another campground, or anywhere you can test a 50 amp hookup. Hope that's the problem and nothing costly.
Good luck.
