Need SC Driver with South Carolina class or F or CDL drivers license

Just upgraded to a diesel Pusher and now I need a safety driver in the Greenville Travelers rest area to help me get my Class F license.

Anyone interested or knows of someone who might be please contact me at

If I didn't know a truck driver, I would contact local auto or truck/bus driving schools. I would also check craigslist and other sources, like RV dealers, for RV movers who could help you. If you can find where and when the DMV does driving exams go there to see who is bringing newbies for their tests.

As a follow up, how was the test? Did you have to take a written or laptop test before the road test?
Thanks in advance!!

Assuming you have a SC DL already you need to take a computer based knowledge test. Study the SC drivers license manual (not the CDL Manual )pages 100-130. Those pages are RV specific.

The test will also have basic question from a regular DL test. If you own a Class A do not skip over the sections about trailers and hitches.

You do not need to schedule the knowledge test just go to any DMV to take it.

It is an easy test and after words they will issue a learners permit.

You then have 1 year to take and pass the practical and road tests both of which are described in the manual.

The practical and road tests need to be scheduled in advanced and are only given at select DMV offices (see DMV website)

You will need a properly licensed driver with you when you arrive to take the road test.

Some examiners ask to see them, some don't.

I just took the Class F test for the second time and passed in SC. The requirement reads other driver must be experienced driver with a valid license on board. Does not say they have to have a Class F. My wife was my other driver for 8 months while I was on the learners permit. I went alone for the test and was not asked about other driver.
Only difficult part of the test was backing into a simulated loading dock from a simulated alley. I failed this the first time. Very difficult with 42 foot coach and I have 15 years experience with motor homes.
I went to the DMV office where they give the test and practiced on the weekend before the test. You can use the test course for practice on week ends and after they close during the week. I would advise all who plan on taking the test to go there and practice. The road test with toad is straight forward.
The test is fresh in mind and I will be happy to answer any questions about the test as best I can.

Happy to hear you passed.

The loading dock is interesting.

When I took the test they said I had 3 tries to park it correctly. Backing the coach into the space was made easier with the use of the back up camera.Allowed me to stop within one foot of the wooden barrier.
The road test is really nothing if you have been driving for a few years

A CDL holder from any state would qualify to operate your MH, not just a SC CDL holder. For the dock back up test, place a rock or line in the spot you want to stop on.

Can any of you who have gotten the class F give any info on the “pre-trip” inspection procedure? I have the permit and need to take the driving portion in the next month or two but the only thing I’m not sure of is the inspection. Is it as intense as the CDL, etc?

You need to make sure your air brakes are working and will hold pressure, that is the most single thing that needs to work. Also head lights, wiper, horn, signal/brake lights and in general your vehicle is road worthy.

Hope that helps. Terry

That does help. I was worried it would be like a CDL vehicle inspection. Thank you very much.
