Southeast trip

We want to travel from Georgia to Virginia next summer. We want to stay on the eastern-most side. We travel in a 5th wheel. I need suggestions on campgrounds and places to be sure to see. thanks!

If you are interested in anything around Richmond, we are staying at the Amerikamp CG (used to be a KOA) in Ashland, VA. Lots of history in Richmond, if you interested in Civil War history there are several battlefields in the local area. Ft Lee has the Womens Army Corps museum and Quartermaster museum. And it is fairly close to Williamsburg and the plantations along the James river. The CG personnel are friendly and helpful, sites and roads are gravel and almost level by themselves. A bit north of here are Fredericksburg, again lots of history, then if you want to go that far, DC with all it's history. In between Fredericksburg and DC the Marine museum is at Quantico. Haven't been myself yet, but I am told it is impressive.

Don't miss Assateague and Chincoteaguee. We stayed at Tall Pines Campground near Sanford Virginia right on Chesapeake Bay. Very nice campground, very well maintained with new facilities.

Try First Encounter State Park in Virginia Beach. Strange setup, you can reserve a space but not a site. I suggest you unhook and explore the campground. The sites are color coded and the colors are sprinkled all over the park. Once you find the perfect site, matching your color, put the tag on the post and go back and get your rig. Great fishing, crabbing and kayaking. Your right next to Ft. Story and Virginia Beach.
