If you want to go North a little further, Shenandoah River State Park has a beautiful campground! Between Luray and Front Royal.

Try Sherando lake. About 6 miles south of I-64.

Thank you. Sherando Lake is about 60 miles from home. I drive on VA151 all the time but never realized just how close it really is for us.

Realize this is an old thread but I have one to add. Natural Chimneys at Augusta County park is west of Rt81 between Harrisonburg and Stauton Va.

We just came back from Claytor Lake State Park near Dublin, VA and Natural Tunnel State Park near Duffield, Va. The tunnel was quite impressive.

I'm sorry for reply to a 5-mo old post (just joined), but Douthat State Park off of 64W in Covington is a great one. Lots of history with CCC-built cabins still being used today. Plus it's a beautiful area.
