Just got a notice from them. What a shame..it was a great place.
The note said:
As someone we consider part of the "Ivanhoe Family,"¯ we are reaching out today about our recently announced plans to close the restaurant. We wish we had a chance to share this information personally and in advance of the announcement. Unfortunately, the complexities of running a restaurant and managing staff and vendor relationships made this impossible.
But we did want to communicate with you directly and indicate just how
much we have appreciated your business at the Ivanhoe and your friend-
ship through the years. While we are sad to see the restaurant close, we are left with many great memories and enduring friendships.
As you may have heard through accounts in the media, a major factor
beyond our control, the loss of over half of the existing parking spaces we leased from our neighboring property, forced us to take this action. We have been informed that these spaces will no longer be available as the owners plan for future development of their site. We certainly understand and appreciate their right to develop their own property.
This would have required us as owners to fundamentally change our
business model"”from that of a value restaurant serving a large volume of
diners to a more exclusive, more expensive restaurant able to serve only
about half the number of patrons.
We have been honored by your friendship and patronage and by great staff and servers at the Ivanhoe. We certainly feel blessed to have the Ivanhoe be such an integral part of the community these past 40 years.
When we opened the restaurant in 1967 we had no idea it would become
such a popular meeting place. We will miss the daily interaction with you, part of the "Ivanhoe Family"¯ who made the restaurant such a special place. Thank you for 40 great years and we will value your friendships forever.
Please contact us if you have any questions. We can be reached by email at

Sincerely,
Ron and Steve
