Lake Placid Camping
We're considering camping in the Lake Placid NY area some time this summer. Any information on Campgrounds and on the roads in and out in both directions would be a great help.

Stayed at North Pole campground. It was nice and the kids liked it. Best bathroom/shower combo (private) that I have seen.
I heard the KOA was nice too but have never been there.
We live in Lake George so if you if you ever are considering staying in that area lemme know.
As far as the road in, scenic but take it easy.

The city of Tupper Lake, NY has a small lakeside campground with full hookups. We stayed there last summer. I think it is about 30 miles to Lake Placid. All of the roads we traveled in the Adirondacks were great. You will need reservations as the CG's fill up during the summer.

About 6-7 years ago we stayed at Wilmington Notch State park at the base of Whiteface Mtn. ski area. They don't have electric service, but is a good spot for hiking. You have to do the Lake Placid lake tour. Lake Placid Pix

I recommend the Lake Placid KOA. It's about 8 miles east of Lake Placid. It has pull through sites, full hookups, is heavily wooded, spacious sites, and a great place to hike around. I've been there twice.
It does get filled up, though. Reservations would be good.

If you really want to "camp" ie dry camp no hookups. There are two beautiful state parks about `12 miles outside of Tupper Lake towards Saranac Lake/Lake Placid. Fish Creek Ponds and Rollins Pond (they are connected you have to drive into Fish Creek to get toRollins) Every site is on the water.

After we camped for a week at Wilmington Notch SP. we drove thru the SP near Saranac Lake. Both are very nice. If you like camping without electric. This year we will have two 4 night stays at campgrounds without electric.
